Imagine that you and several thousand of your closest friends decided to sneak into Mexico illegally. And imagine you then gathered in one of the largest cities, waving American flags and blocking traffic. Imagine you demanded in English that the Mexicans change their laws to accommodate you.
....
Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado is engaging in what amounts to open warfare with the White House on the issue. His aide Will Adams told me yesterday that Tancredo and other House conservatives intend to block any bill that contains either amnesty or guest worker provisions.
....Bush always has had ample authority to solve a relatively manageable problem with illegal immigration.
"I'm not sure what about this guy is conservative anymore," says Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies. "He appointed a couple good judges and that was it -- and he almost blew one of those chances."
Krikorian was alluding to the Harriet Miers fiasco, one of a tri fecta of Bush blunders that have alerted conservatives to his true nature. The second was the Dubai ports controversy. The third is this push for immigration amnesty.
Krikorian advises Bush to cut his losses and accept a tough enforcement bill. Once that 700-mile fence is up on the southern border, Bush might revive his push for that amnesty that he re fuses to call an amnesty.
"A lot of ordinary Americans might swallow it if it were presented as a second step after enforcement was in place and if it weren't demanded as a right but as a result of illegals begging the forgiveness of the American people," he said.

No compromise =no bill= no change = BIG BUCKS FOR TANCREDO
Border security F-I-R-S-T ! Then we can talk "guest worker," etc. Only then.
"I've already started that, they won't get a dime from me, until I see a true turn around."
You'll see the turnaround in November: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
I don't think it's a matter of politicians not caring. I think they care a great deal. In fact, if you think about it, the U.S. needs the tax base to help support all of the baby boomers who will be heading into retirement. If the U.S. made it easier for immigrants to get a visa, we would be preventing problems that countries such as Japan has with one third of its citizens over the age of 65.
U.S. citizens are simply not re-producing fast enough, and taxes aren't decreasing. The baby boomer generation is going to totally screw over my generation (gen Y) if this bill gets passed! Think about all the debt we've accumulated with the Bush Administration. Who do you think is going to have to pay that back? People like me! My generation needs all the help it can get to pay that off! So let 'em in!
SOLD OUT!
However, there want be wall or anything now. I think alot of people that wanted a wall have missed the boat on this one. There could have been a compromise that would have given that and would have been good for business interest and didnt inflame the hispanic community. Oh well thats life. Now the result is there will be no bill and conservatives are calling other conservatives traitors. There is a reason I stay away from these immigration threads. There is no rational thought or discussion. I going to return to the magical world of March Madness till Tuesday and give politics a rest. I will return to watching ourselves eat our own next week. Geaux Tigers and Geaux Gators.
So who in the hell will we vote for in 2008?? I sure hope a REAL conservative emerges before then.
This new breed of "republican" worships at the altar of the dollar. Whatever is good for their pocket, that's it. They would sell their mother for a dollar if they could.
God forbid you say anything you are branded a commie or DU member. What these idiots fail to acknowledge is that the whole premise of capitilism is that you are dealing with some sort of decency and standards. A free for all will end in chaos and anarchy like South America.
As far as I am concerned, I will never volunteer my time again for the GOP. I did it twice, no more.
Because all they want are greenbacks and wetbacks. That's it. $$$$$$$$$$$$
Frankly, I think it's pathetic that George W. Bush would hold the National Security of the American People hostage to his stinking cheap labor program.
And I'M the one who is supposed to "compromise"????
NO WAY.
They don't even call me anymore.
The TRUTH hurts!
LLS
Its not only the border, its spending, CFR, drug bill, etc etc.
I don't see one reason to vote for the GOP over the RATS other than WOT on the margin.
I remember some on this board thinking they were having to make space for GWB on Rushmore?????????
Yeah right!
The reason politicians don't care about illegal immigration is because, while the people care about the issue, they don't vote on the issue. It is never in the top five of issues among voters during presidential campaigns.
"You live like a king yet refuse to pay an honest, working American a decent wage to work for you."
What is the definition of living like a king?
What do you think is a fair wage is for a farm worker, doing what job?
How much do YOU know about farming?
Gay marriage, now there a real reason to vote GOP.
Forget about millions flooding this country to sack it financially, no, gay marriage, that's it.
This is so freaking sad.
Exactly.
