Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was thrust back into the spotlight Wednesday, when a Nation of Islam activist claimed the governor knew about her affiliation to Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam leader known for his attacks on Jews, gays and other groups, before appointing her to the state's hate crimes commission earlier this year.
Sister Claudette Muhammad, blasted Blagojevich for saying he did not know her or realize she was an official in the Nation of Islam before appointing her to the anti-discrimination panel.
"You and I spoke. We took pictures. ... I have written to you numerous times, all the letters of which were on our Nation of Islam stationery," Muhammad wrote to Blagojevich in a March 2 letter obtained by the Chicago Tribune.
Five Jewish members of the commission resigned from the body in protest of Muhammad's appointment. At the time, Blagojevich said he didn't know anything about Muhammad until learning of her from news reports, and eventually tried to calm the furor by saying he had begun talks with leaders of different groups to look for common ground on racial and religious issues.
But Abby Ottenhoff, a spokeswoman in the governor's office, would not say Wednesday who Blagojevich met with or how many meetings had taken place, nor could she say what he learned from the meetings.
Ottenhoff would not even say whether Blagojevich is looking for replacements for the commission members who resigned.
Ottenhoff also refused to discuss how Muhammad came to be chosen for the Gov.'s Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes, other than to say she was recommended by a variety of sources and the governor's staff reviewed them before approving her appointment.
She said Blagojevich does not remember meeting Muhammad because he meets with thousands of people a year. She said it is routine for people to talk to him, shake his hand and have their photos taken with him after events.
Blagojevich appointed Muhammad, the chief of protocol for the Nation of Islam, to the commission in August. She was under the radar until inviting commissioners to attend a speech last month by Farrakhan, which included references to "Hollywood Jews" promoting homosexuality and "other filth."
Opponents argue she does not belong on the commission unless she repudiates Farrakhan. Muhammad says his remarks may be "perceived by some as anti-Semitic," but says she respects Farrakhan. She also says she is devoted to promoting fairness for all people.
At a March 10 appearance, Blagojevich said he planned to bring black, Jewish and gay leaders together to talk about underlying divisions revealed by the dispute over his appointment.
Some prominent leaders in those groups said Wednesday they had not been contacted by the governor's office and didn't know of anyone else who had been.
But Rep. Larry McKeon, a gay lawmaker, said he believes the governor is making good on his promise, but he would say little more. "I've offered assistance with this, but they haven't followed up on it," the Chicago Democrat said.
Ira Youdovin, executive vice president of the Chicago Board of Rabbis, said he has heard from others that they had been contacted by the governor's office, but he could provide no details

Hate crimes are PC doublespeak anyway. There is no double standard because that is exactly what they are designed to establish.
Why didn't the AP mention Louis Farrakhan's attacks on "white devils"? Because it is PC to make racist attacks on white people. The AP is a shill for an evil agenda.

If Obama said he recommended her, the press would immediately applaud the appointment because Obama can do no wrong.
It is no surprise to learn that Rod Blagojevich was unaware of the affiliation of a fellow Dem'crat with the Nation of Islam, as he is probably one of the more clueless persons ever to be elevated to the office of Illinois Governor.
Diversity, doncha know, is a leading requirement for governance under ANY Dem'crat regime, at whatever level.
But the diversity must first be limited to only those of the more liberal persuasion within the Dem'crat party. Anything else, pretty much doesn't matter.
There is no tolerance for conservativism or acknowledging any positive traits about this country prior to the later half of the 20th century. "Diversity training" is just another term for "re-education program".
Of course, the real issue is why does Illinois have a government appointed hate crime's commission?
I can buy off on "I have lots of pictures taken with people, that doesn't know I know anything about them." And as far as the letters the woman wrote him; do you think that if you write a letter to your governor he or she actually sees it?
Having said that, if you're going to appoint someone to a commission, you'd think that "What organizations do you belong to" would be a pretty common question. OTOH, the NOI styles itself as a religion, and they may not ask about that for fear of looking politically incorrect.
OR - they don't know a damn thing about the NOI, which in Illinois is hard to fathom.
What's next? The UN Human Rights Commission staffed by Cuba and Sudan? Oh wait, that already happened.

Give AP a pass. Practically everybody who's been paying attention knows that Blago is democrat.

The main reason that Sister Claudette Marie Muhammed should never have been appointed to Governor Dumbass's Orwellian "Hate Crimes" (Thought Crimes?) Commission is because she belongs to an organization that espouses crackpot racial theories that are even MORE absurd than Heinrich Himmler's SS or Nathan Hale's World Church of the Creator. (see below) Would this dumbass governor have appointed Nathan Hale's "MINISTER of Protocol?" to a Hate Crimes Panel?

In the Nation of Islam, both God and the devil are human beings. Elijah Muhammad identified the devil as the white man, the Caucasian race. According to Elijah, though the black race is many trillions of years old, the white race began a mere six thousand years ago with Yakub, one of the Black Gods of this time cycle.[15]
Elijah explained, "The white race is not equal with darker people because the white race was not created by the God of Righteousness. . . . They were made by Yakub, an original Black Man—who is from the Creator. Yakub, the father of the devil, made the white race, a race of devils—enemies of the darker people of the earth. According to Elijah Muhammad, Yakub was born 20 miles from the Holy City of Mecca about 6,600 years ago. He decided to conquer and subdue the black race, and through lies he gathered 59,999 followers, whom the King of Mecca exiled to the island of Patmos. There Yakub worked to create the white race by allowing marriage only between brown or lighter-skinned Negroes and by killing all newborn black babies. His followers obeyed him; the penalty for disobedience was decapitation.[17]
Yakub died after 150 years, but his project to make a race of lawless criminals lived on (Elijah's term for this misguided eugenics project was "grafting"). After two hundred years, only brown people were left alive. After another 200 years, Patmos was home to only yellow and red people. The white race left the island and returned to Paradise (Mecca). But in less than six months they had caused warfare and controversy among the people, so the King of Mecca had them escorted to Europe by "a caravan, armed with rifles, to keep the devils going westward." Here begins the white man's history, for he was granted six thousand years to rule the earth.
The first two thousand years were squandered while the whites lived as naked savages in the caves of Europe, eating their meat raw and without even a knowledge of fire. They tried to "graft" themselves back to black by reverse breeding, but succeeded only in making gorillas (this is the origin of the monkey and gorilla family).[19] Then Moses came to them. He taught them how to wear clothes, use fire, cook their food, and to believe in Allah. The whites rejected Moses, who set a trap and blew up three hundred of them with dynamite,[20] but it was through Moses' efforts that the teaching of civilization gradually seeped into the mind of the white man. Over the centuries, the white man used this knowledge, combined with his innate craftiness and "tricknology," to dominate the world.
The twenty-four God-Scientists who wrote the history of this world foreordained that the period of white rule should be limited to six thousand years. To accomplish this, "the Black Man or Gods were put to sleep in order that the Wisdom of the Black Man did not interfere with what the white man is made for (to rule us under wickedness, enslavement, deceit, murder, and death for six thousand years)."
The Nation Of Islam is part of the Enemy Within. They mean to behead all non-black infidels. Don't underestimate them the way way some fools underestimated the threat of Hitler when he began with a small group of followers. The NOI is part of the worldwide Islamic Jihad. They danced in their mosques as on 9/11. They wish to dance on your graves.
