Vicente Fox: U.S. Will 'Beg' for Mexican Workers
NewsMax.com ^ | March 30, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

Mexican President Vicente Fox is defending earlier comments where he insisted that the U.S. will soon be "begging" Mexico to send workers to alleviate a coming U.S. labor shortage.

"I dare say that in 10 years, the U.S. will be begging, will be pleading with Mexico to send it workers," said Fox, who meets with President Bush in Cancun today to discuss what he calls the "migration" problem.

In his March 3 remarks to the BBC, Fox warned that the U.S. had better take advantage of the Mexican labor pool while it has the chance, because when America starts begging for Mexican workers, "Mexico won't do it because it will have its people employed [here at home]."

In an interview Wednesday night, Fox said he stood by his comments.

"Let's put it this way," he told MSNBC's Rita Cosby. "[The] U.S. economy will need additional labor than what they have, because population growth in United States is not growing."

Fox said he foresaw the day when his country's excess labor pool would dry up.

"Mexico will level off it's population by year 2030," he explained. "Mexico will never pass 130 - 135 million people and then it will level-off so we won't have that kind of energy that youth, but more so, we will need them here in Mexico to sustain our retirement, pension families which will be many."

For the time being, however, the Mexican leader said he remained opposed to U.S. proposals that would crack down on workers who leave Mexico and enter the U.S. illegally.

Asked about U.S. plans to build a border fence, Fox told Cosby: "I don't think building a wall or try to take that kind of measure will help the issue. I think we both have the capacity . . . give migration a legal form, an ordered flow and a full respect to human rights of everybody."

He also opposes plans to station the U.S. military along the Mexican border, saying:

"No, it's not the way to solve it."

Instead he credited illegal Mexican shoppers with keeping malls along the border in business.

"Right there in the border, there is one million persons, people crossing every day . . . The way they cross to consume on the U.S. side, this incredible amount of big shopping centers in the border on the U.S. side, it's Mexican consumption makes them successful."

I read recently where 8 of the top 20 billionaires in the world were Mexican. Fox and his rich friends are just trying to rid his country of the poor liabilities (illegals) so they can keep their money. See tagline.

yeah create androids to clean hotel rooms and do construction labor would do the trick...

Ha! Funny. Actually, I was thinking of machines that would pick all those cherries and such out on the west coast, but I like your idea too!

When Mexico elects a communist president this coming July, most thinking people will realize why a border wall is such a good idea.

..or the USA will develop agricultural robots which negate the need of human tomato pickers.

Why hire an illegal when you can buy a robot that will work 24/7 without the "illegal" part.

Wishful thinking on the issue, or a liberal viewpoint!

Gets my vote for stupidest comment of the day. Hey Dan, ever heard of the cotton gin? The assembly line? These are innovations that were sparked by the industrial revolution. And, innovation is a cornerstone of conservatism. YOu may have heard (but I doubt it) that liberals don't innovate, they instead prefer to whine and drag others down instead of providing and doing for themselves. It's called personal responsibility and innovation allows people or groups to do more than they would have otherwise. How you see this as a liberal mindset is beyond me.

So, he wishes. I was in Vietnam last month and actually saw more American flags in today's Saigon than I did in Los Angeles as I watched the protest. While in Vietnam I learnt that an America loving and hard-working person that applies for a VISA has less than a 5% chance of being accepted because the US has so many illegal mexicans to absorb. This is sad. This is unfair. This rewards those who sneek into the USA.

Well then: let's build The Wall, round-up all the illegals by whatever means necessary and dump them back on the other side (something which will probably take ten years itself), wait ten-plus years, and then see who's still starving-in-the-mud and who's still going-strong.

We won't need to beg you, Vicente you POS, because you will keep dumping your poor over the border anyway.

I'm really tired of the myth that mexican illegals do the jobs americans refuse to do... who the heck do these people think were doing the jobs BEFORE the mexicans invaded our border states? Whites, Blacks, and Asians.. I personally support our local Hmong farmers who use themselves and their families as their labor base.

As far as cleaning hotel rooms... my (white) mother cleaned hotel rooms for years and learned a few things about the hierarchy of hotel maids... they put in the east Indian women as supervisors because they were good in charge.. beneath them were the whites and asians,.. at the bottom of the food chain were the mexican women because they liked to stand around and gossip, and thought they were better than everyone else..

"In 10 years I susspect many Europeans will be getting ready to leave the gathering storm in Eurarbia."

I could use some Frogs to cut my grass but I need the right to fire their asses when the female workers don't shave their legs.

Great! Send workers! Send them here through LEGAL channels. You won't hear much in the way of complaints.
