Lou Dobbs Wins Viewers in Opposing Illegal Immigration
NY Times ^ | 3/29/06 | BILL CARTER and JACQUES STEINBERG

Posted on 03/30/2006 7:53:51 AM PST by Dr. Scarpetta

Lou Dobbs, the nation's most prominent opponent of current immigration policy, began his day yesterday on the "Today" show on NBC, debating a Hispanic defender of illegal immigrants. He moved on to "American Morning" on CNN to denounce a bill passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday as "an amnesty program."

On the CNN morning show Dobbs called the Senate bill "an unconscionable act" and "a sellout." He appeared again on CNN's midday "Live From..." program, saying, "I think illegal immigrants are a burden to the taxpayer, unequivocally."

This followed by just a day a confrontation between Mr. Dobbs and a guest on his own program, Janet Murguia, the president of the Hispanic civil rights group National Council of La Raza, during which he lectured her on immigration policy.

I think a growing number of people feel that our country has never before presented an image of such weakness and impotence and the Administration's seeming inability to provide any kind of protection of our borders feeds that image. At some point, we need to have some kind of national defense.

Oh for God's sake! Are you Howard Dean?

I guess you've failed to notice that there have been no further attacks on America since 9/11, and that Mexicans weren't piloting the planes on that day, either.

Lou Dobbs wins the 2004 Eugene Katz Award For Excellence in the Coverage of Immigration

Lou Dobbs:

"There is no nation, on the face of the earth, of any industrialized nation, whose borders are any more open as ours. Despite all that’s occurred in security since September 11 . . . we were just discussing one truism that exists: if one million illegal aliens, estimated, can cross our borders, each year, without being caught, what can a terrorist do? It is a remarkable situation . . ."

I also wondered why no other network picked up Lou when he was let go by CNN. He would have been a great catch for any of the MSM. They all need a "Token" conservative.

Actually Lou left CNN in 99 to start his own "internet" company(i.e rubin induced dot com bubble which louie dobbs jumped head first into) and lost his shirt and came back to CNN, and I wouldn't doubt there were some conditions for re-employment, such as being anti-Bush 24/7.

Although Lou did start his own company after leaving CNN, space something, leaving CNN was not his decision. He was Fired.

Okay, so it's Bush's fault. We'll ignore Reagan's granting of amnesty and start from now.

How do we rid ourselves of the Irish girls who are working as nannies and in bars all over NYC. How do we rid ourselves of the chinese in the restaurants. How do we rid ourselves of the european illegals in every single manual labor job in this country.

Perhaps if life wasn't made so easy for our own unskilled folks they might have taken lower paying jobs to learn the work ethic and improve their lives.

You think all this is Bush's fault, so be it.

Lou Dobbs is chairman and chief executive officer of Space.com, the only site on the Internet devoted to news, information, education and entertainment focused entirely on space and space-related content. Space.com was launched on July 20, 1999. Dobbs is also a partner in production and the host of syndicated radio show for NBC, titled The Lou Dobbs/NBC Financial Report. They also publish a corresponding monthly financial newsletter. Prior to founding New York-based space.com, Dobbs was president of CNNfn, executive vice president of CNN and a member of the network's executive committee. Dobbs founded CNNfn and CNNfn.com, the first programming services to launch simultaneously on television and the Internet. Dobbs joined CNN at its inception in 1980 and was the anchor of CNN's Moneyline News Hour with Lou Dobbs and CNNfn's Business Unusual.

Wow Louie Dobbs leaves CNN, and his internet dot com company went bust and his baby CNNfN went bust, losing CNN millions, and yet he is still welcomed to CNN because of his 24/7 anti Bush bias now.

I think the blue dress applies to Louie Dobbs.

I think people should keep in mind that the American people "notice" the things that they can see. Whatever may or may not be going on "behind the scenes," what Americans see is that the man who engineered 911 and the man against whom justice is sought is still disseminating his anti-American message. What they see is how Homeland Security responded to a major domestic crisis last year. And what they see is a total collapse of our defenses along our borders. That's what they can see. If this Administration wants to project an image of strength rather than weakness and impotence, some changes will be necessary.

Forget one terrorist, how about hundreds?

I'm amazed that there hasn't been another (major) terrorist attack on United States soil since 9/11.

New York, NY --2/24/2006

"For the first time noted CNN business journalist Lou Dobbs defends his controversial (anti-immigrant, according to some) statements about illegal immigration into the US before a SPANISH-LANGUAGE US TV audience.

In the interview, Dobbs said that through illegal immigration, “we are destroying the way of life for an entire generation,” and called the illegal immigrants “absolutely an illegal invasion.”

Dobbs repeated many of the concerns he has raised on the “Broken Borders” segment of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” for the past three years.

According to Dobbs, about three million people enter the US illegally each year.

He cites the cost of that illegal influx as $200 billion annually in depressed wages, $50 billion in social services and health care costs and $20 billion remitted annually by immigrants to friends and family in Mexico at a time when the US runs, he says, a $45 billion trade deficit with Mexico."

Now THAT's a sentiment I can endorse! Lou makes too much sense for the political establishment regarding immigration though. To do this right, secure the borders, document those now in the country illegally (from any other nation), overhaul the naturalization process to take no more than five years --with proof of English skills and tax paying combined with accountability on the part of businesses hiring illegals once a controlled documentation program is established-- and then move on to the border on the North (though these suggestions are more than what Lou advocates).

One benefit to this approach is the votes which will come from the naturalized citizens (and they ought not have votes counted until naturalized ... I know, I know, the democraps will squeal) once they become Americans because the majority are already conservative minded.

This has become a huge problem because of Reagan's failure to do something besides amnesty in the eighties. And it must be noted that we will all pay more for goods and services once illegals are dealt with, but that's not a bad thing in the long run since we will be integrating hard working conservative people into our national 'pot'.

This crap of Mexican flags flying over marches seeking amnesty for illegals is a crock and ought not be ignored! The notion that the illegals do the jobs Americans won't is also a crock but is tied tightly to the business communities greed in wage offerings. Time to stop rewarding the illegals and the businesses exploiting and thus diminishing the labor/wage force. Wouldn't a legitimate SS# and FICA taxes from now illegals help the SS system? Wouldn't paying for hospital/medical care on the part of those now illegally in this country getting 'entitlements' help our failing healthcare system? No brainer ... I've witnessed first-hand the hard work and dedication to doing the job day after day that illegals carry on. I want such hard working people to be a part of MY AMERICA. Let's do it right by rewarding those who actually want to be Americans and will go through the three ring circus of naturalization.
