Cheney: Iraq Documents Show Saddam-Osama Tie
NewsMax.com ^ | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 03/30/2006 6:43:13 AM PST by Carl/NewsMax

Vice President Dick Cheney predicted Wednesday that thousands of boxes of documents captured from Saddam's Hussein's former regime will show that the Iraqi dictator had a much closer relationship with Osama bin Laden than was previously known.

"I think what we'll find as we get a chance to go through and analyze these documents -- there's some 50,000 boxes of them that are now being made available here over the next few months -- that we'll see a pretty complete picture that Saddam Hussein did, in fact, deal with some pretty nefarious characters out there," Cheney told Fox News Radio's Tony Snow.

Asked if he was referring to Osama bin Laden, Cheney replied:

"Yes, we don't know the full scale of it there yet, and I don't want to make a hard and fast prediction here. But there is reporting, obviously, that we've seen over the years that there was some kind of a relationship there between the Iraqis and Osama bin Laden."

An Iraqi intelligence document ordered released by the White House two weeks ago detailed a Feb. 1995 meeting between bin Laden and an Iraqi intelligence official that was personally approved by Saddam, where bin Laden requested help in conducting "joint operations" against U.S. forces then stationed in Saudi Arabia.

The document went on to note that Saddam agreed to help bin Laden with propaganda broadcasts into Saudi Arabia and that "the development of the relationship and cooperation between the two parties [would] be left according to what's open based on dialogue and agreement on other ways of cooperation."

The vice president stressed that nothing in the new documents uncovered so far links Saddam to the 9/11 attacks. But he added: "That's a separate proposition from the question of whether or not there was some kind of a relationship between the Iraqi government, Iraqi intelligence services and the al Qaida organization."

a preponderance of the evidence

Sadly, I don't think a good many people will consider that. If it does not look good on TV...it won't sell. That is why proof of the ability to produce WMDs does not matter much; a barrel of WMDs would.

"They will just emphasis that Saddam worked with al Qaeda on Saudi Arabia exclusively, or something to that affect. Ties between Saddam and other terrorist groups will be reduced to reporting on how these groups are not al Qaeda."

Move the goalposts.

Money is Power.

When you throw money around you are wielding power.

Eventually the Democraps will gain power, then we make them pay the bill.

Bush is a genius.

"The veep would make a fine president but the Demonrats and leftist press have demonized him to the degree that he ranks lower than GWB in the polls. He is considered venal and mean by about 65% of the electorate, if one is to believe the polls. He is not that old (66) and in better health than he is credited with. But given the foregoing, there is zero chance he would run."

In 1987 Reagan was at 38% in the polls.

Excellent. The administration should promote the important finds in these documents like Saddam and Bin Laden relation as Vice President Cheney is doing.

The blogospere is a powerful tool that the administration is using to their advantage. Whatever percolates up will be reported to a greater or lesser degree depending on it's significance. Rather than come across as trying to spin and cover their a$$, the "grass roots" dissemination of these revelations will come from the bottom up and have a great deal more validity in the end.

I agree. Keep the MSM and their spin filter out of the loop. This is pure Rovian genius.

..we are the blog ...resistance is futile

Move the goalposts.

Yes they will. They will spin, obfuscate, ignore, distort and lie.

But that's OK. It will further descredit them in the eyes of the public. That's progress.

Posters like you diminish the quality of this forum.

Defend your ideas without the personal attack on justshutupandtakeit.

When you fling out sarcastic nastiness as you just did, one is led to believe that you can't defend your ideas rationally.

Can you?

This is great stuff. The administration is fighting back in multiple ways.

The American people will eventually know the complete truth because of these documents, and the MSM won't be able to do a single thing to stop it.

It makes my heart glad. :)

Ignored by the left

article on Canadians that found documents 2003. I am actually shocked that CBS reported it.

"AP) Documents discovered in the bombed out headquarters of Iraq's intelligence service provide evidence of a direct link between Saddam Hussein's regime and Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist network"

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/04/30/iraq/main551632.shtml

Also these documents found on PM George Galloway

2003 article Christian Science Monitor

http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0425/p01s04-woiq.htm

"BAGHDAD - A fresh set of documents uncovered in a Baghdad house used by Saddam Hussein's son Qusay to hide top-secret files detail multimillion dollar payments to an outspoken British member of parliament, George Galloway."

The SAME people attacking Bush and condemning the GOP would have been attacking Reagan and condemning the GOP in the 80s. And for the same reason- they have no understanding of political realities.

its lines like that, that make the whole story useless

I disagree. It is a fact that there has been no documentation as of yet tying Saddam directly to 9/11. It has never been asserted that that was the case. The democrats and the media have lied repeatedly that the Administration has made that claim. I see no problem with our side being honest and straightforward.

A connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda is quite enough for me, and I suspect most Americans.

Congress REFLECTS most intimately the wishes of the People.

Just like they are doing on immigration you mean?

Just out of curiousity were you and your buddy ohioWfan both programmed in the same factory? The rapidity and verocity of the defense makes me think you perhaps share the same serial number.

As far as lowering the level of the debate, ohioWfan, it would seem that your admonition to just "shut up and toe the party line" was more about squelching any opinion that might be contrary to your own.

Also, I am truly sorry if feelings were hurt, if your skin isn't thick, maybe you should find a Forum other than FR.

Lots of silly assumptions in that post, none of them true, but none of them surprising.

Opine away, Herr Freiheit. Your words speak for themselves...........unfortunately.

It's absurd to say the Administration should find the "smoking gun" and publish it first. The problem here was that there are too many documents and too few interpreters. By the time a "smoking gun" is found, it could be 2010. The document dump is the only practical answer. It also has the advantage of letting the public discover any smoking guns, not the Administration.

Agree the MSM will suppress it as long as they can but, if something dramatic does turn up, it will become news. Just as the Swift Boat Vets could only be ignored so long, so it will be here.

My feelings are so NOT hurt that I doubt if your best shot would faze me in the slightest.

Yes Congress reflects the people. And recent hysteria whipped up by the RATS and the gullible don't change that fact.

OhioWfan and I share a common characteristic which the hysterical lack, rationality. You should try it sometime.

I think we see a bit of projection going on here, just....

Feelings hurt because a random freeper calls you a Bushbot? Pretty funny, IMO.

Perhaps it's because those who function at an emotional rather than rational level, such as our German friend here, cannot imagine what it's like to think first and not just react emotionally.

This forum would clean up a lot if every freeper could do that.
