Nunez warns Schwarzenegger, GOP on immigration

WASHINGTON - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the GOP could suffer politically if they're on the wrong side of the federal debate over immigration, California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez said Wednesday.

Nunez, D-Los Angeles, visited Capitol Hill as the Senate prepared to take up a sweeping immigration bill that would allow guest workers and give illegal immigrants a path toward citizenship. He criticized Schwarzenegger for not taking a stronger stance in the wake of get-tough House legislation that would turn illegal immigrants into felons and wall off hundreds of miles of the border with Mexico.

That bill, which Nunez called racist, has been the focus of huge protests in California and other states.

"I think that Latinos in general have already abandoned Schwarzenegger in a big way," said Nunez, citing Schwarzenegger's support for the Minutemen volunteer border patrol project.

Schwarzenegger's position "leaves a lot to be desired," Nunez said.

"Until and unless he gets on the right side of issues with the Latino immigrant community I think he stands to lose a lot in November," he said.

Katie Levinson, spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger's re-election campaign, dismissed the criticism.

Ahh yes, warnings.

All I have to say that it would be lunacy to ignore the legal American voters.

BS!!! The mexican flag waving criminals are liberal democrats to the core.

There is absolutely no way GOP will get votes even if they giveaway this entire country to the illegal aliens.Maybe a handful, but they know darn well if CONSERVATIVE Republicans were on their game they would NEVER have voted with the liberal democrats, hell must have frozen over, pigs are flying.

Isn't the pattern, used so long by the black racists like Jesse and his criminal ilk, so similar. The Mexicans are trying to extort their illegal existence into security by threatening politicians. For this alone, they should all be run out of America, every ILLEGAL one of them.

Mobs of ILLEGAL anarchists run our streets now, demanding that we dare not enforce our laws. And Washington cowers like a bunch of scared, wet cats in this corner, trying to find ways to placate them...makes me want to puke!

Racist! Rofl. Yes enforcing immigration laws is racist. We have far more lax immigration laws than most of Europe but you don't hear them being called racist. Sad that someone who is that hyperbolistic to the media can achieve a position of any kind of political power.

That bill, which Nunez called racist...

Oh yes, here is comes. This is all about racism and about "civil rights". If it hasn`t occured to Mr. Nunez, there are very good reasons why the United States as well as other countries have laws about entering their country as well as naturalization, first and foremost is to prevent harm to the current population and it`s citizens. Prevent people such as terrorists, psychopaths, disease carriers, you name it from causing a hell of alot more damage than could even be brought from enforcement of immigration laws.. unless Mr. Nunez allows any stranger off the street to sleep in his bed? How about it Mr. Nunez, put an ad in your local paper saying your house is wide open to anybody walking in the street, or maybe you are just "racist"?

Only if hispanics all think the same way and elected Fabian Nunez as their spokesman.

I don't believe it for one second.

Mr. Nunez, some are ALREADY felons! But we don`t KNOW IT because they are here ILLEGALLY! How many illegals are in this country now who are murderers, rapists? Guess what? WE DON`T KNOW because they are here ILLEGALLY! Every single illegal is a potential rapist, killer, terrorist you name it... Why? Because they THEY ARE HERE ILLEGALLY!

At this point I don't think it really even matters if a Republican ever gets elected again in California .It's done in that state . California is a harbinger of what is in store for the rest of the country if the illegal immigration continues unabated , as it will.
No offense to our Cali bretheren, we know you've tried , it's sad what has happened and scary what is coming .

God, I am so sick of this illegal stuff. Damn, why don`t we just annex Mexico, make it a part of the US then we would only have the Canadian border and the smaller border of Guatemala to deal with, plus we could claim all that lovely oil in the Gulf. Anyone know how that could happen or am I going off on a deep end here again? I have nothing against Mexicans in the least, I`ve worked with them in landscaping and to say they work their ballz off is putting it mildly, but this illegal stuff has got to end. It`s not about the Mexicans as a people but how this BS "They are not felons" illegal immigrant "loophole" puts so many people in potential harm, INCLUDING illegals! This isn`t 1386 where you can just tramp all over the continent and say hello to a tribe, this is 2006 where one psychopath or one disease carrier can do tremendous damage in the concentrated populations that exist today.

This has got to be over soon. The legal citizens of the State have been patient up till now but everyday I feel the unrest building and it's not far from the boiling point and normally calm people are about to take matters into their own hands and the SATHTF. The Watts and Rodney King riots are going to look like a picnic in the park.

I really only have one question to ask: why does anyone consider Fabian Nunez an "American", and why do we Americans have to obey laws he's made?

Good evening.
"Damn, why don`t we just annex Mexico,"

I've long thought that the Panama Canal would make an excellent southern border for our 51st and 52nd states.
