"I'm in the 'not enough' camp, but I am revolted by those who shriek that nothing has been done, when that is an outright lie. If our dialogue on this issue is to be productive, the liars have to shut up and go away."

The liars fall into 3 camps.

1. People who are repeating what they've heard without actually doing any research of their own.
2. People who think that this immigration issue isn't getting enough attention (the lies and exagerations are their versions of shouting at people passing by on the street corner).
3. Professional disruptors (e.g. various 3rd parties left and right, Democrats, avowed leftists, Moby trolls, DK and DU misfits, etc.).

The 3rd group tends to claim that President Bush is somehow the "enemy" of the Right, as if he is out to get us, throw us into gulags, etc.

The other 2 groups just need to be reasoned with.

I sure hope you're right that the first two groups can be reasoned with, Southack.

I have always believed conservatives to be the most rational of all people. People who operated in the realm of ideas, who were educated and reasonable, and who could disagree with dignity and respect.

This anti-immigration mob has shattered any ideals I had about conservatives before I signed on to this forum (presuming that most of them actually are conservatives.....which sometimes seems a stretch).

I have never seen such lack of rational thought, nor such intolerance and emotional lack of control in my life.

Some of them make me want to dialogue with a liberal so I can deal with someone more rational. ;)
