Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

If they vote for anything resembling the Senate bill the Republicans can kiss power goodbye.

Yeah, let's get the Dems in there, and considering how hard it is to get someone OUT of Congress once they're in there, a good decade or two of them in power will really show the Republicans how it's done. I can just see the illegals being kicked out left and right under Hillary, Teddy, Kerry...

Not saying the R's don't need to get their heads straight, but if you don't think it can get any worse, let's have Ted K in charge of immigration policy.

You can't handle the whole truth, and that's not my problem.

You're projecting your Communist latent tendencies onto others which also is not my problem.

Anything to keep the cheap labor coming and achieve the Enemy Within's ultimate goal - destruction of America.

That makes you a Progressive useful idiot, by definition.

There were no national borders at the time of the Mayflower arriving. There are, however, internationally recognized national borders now. As such, those entering without permission or right do so in violation of the sovereignty of the United States of America. That alone gives us every right to enforce our borders and deport any and all who enter this nation illegally.

"They deserve a beating just as much as anyone else in this matter."

Absolutely.

My prediction is that they will pass an amnesty (of course, not using that term), more funding for border security (not mentioning exactly what or any timeline involved), and then everyone will go home.

IOW, status quo.

Can't do anything REAL to deal with this because too many are beholden to too many other interests.

Best regards,

Just wondering what you are hoping to accomplish on this thread? Are you wanting to get banned so that you can wear some badge decrying the unfairness of consequences?

I've been hearing mostly just a bunch of could've, should've and would'ves here on FR lately but I have a question that continues to puzzle me, what do most people consider "Guest Worker" that the process would lead it not to be "Amnesty"?

The House immigration bill is clearly superior to the Senate version. Let's hope that in any compromise negotiations, we get a bill as close to the house version as possible.

Actually, illegals once here, help their relatives come to the U.S. And no, illegals generally don't go back for visits, as the risks of being caught and paying to reenter are too great.

Included in the purposed legislation is a "path to citizenship". It exonerates them of their crime of being here illegally in the first place. There is already a "path to citizenship". If the illegals were really all that interested, they'd be following it instead of standing on US streets waving Mexican flags.

No Amnesty. No hiding it as a Guest Worker Program

Comparing the proposed guest-worker (i.e., "treason) initiative to amnesty requires a bit more examination.

We should never tolorate an amnesty (a forgiving of the crime of illegally entering the US). But even amnesty in that sense is preferable to this guest-worker plot by the RHINOs. What the guest-worker program and gold cards would do is make the hiring of the illegals legal and the illegals themselves legal, giving them supra-workers rights over American citizens without them even having to be Americans. Tens of millions more would come to clkaim their gold cards and free social services.

Emboldened companies would not even have to hire them with a wink and a nod from our dud president, as they are doing right now. They could hire them ahead of American workers outright. You'll see ads like "HIRING GOLD CARD WORKERS NOW!" And you'll hear phone messages like "We're sorry, but only gold card applicants are being considered for employment at this time." If the best we can get is neither amnesty or the guest-worker plot, fine. We'll keep up the fight and win another day. But, make no mistake, this guest-worker initiative is thousands... no... tens of millions times worse than even amnesty.
