Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

This is what FR is about, stating opinions, and backing them up, not the one line 'cute' soundbytes. What you posted is what FR used to be. Keep it up, we need you here.

"As I said to someone else that replied in a similar vain, save your breath for our leadership. Your time would be better spent trying to persuade them to uphold the law than persuading all of us to suck up."

---Nice dodge.

So on your planet, when you throw the Republicans out, who will replace them?

Here on Earth, the Republicans won't be replaced by anyone who's stronger on immigration, but would love to hear how things are going on your world.---

If you expect nothing from your leaders, you will get nothing. Your condescending words do nothing to advance your argument, and only serve lower the value of your opinions in the eyes of your fellow conservatives.

We have waited, it seems forever, for the Congress to address the issue of illegal immigration in some meaningful manner. After a promising start by the House, the Senate Judiciary Committee has brought forth this insulting piece of appeasement. Many of us are profoundly angry and disappointed. We are concerned for the future of our Republic.

That's how things are going in my world.

Look, why should we support the eradication of this country's laws, customs, and culture?

What do we owe to Mexico that we haven't already given them?

Why are you so insistent that we be irretrievably wedded to their unique economic and social maladies?

If they can not fix their shop, then there is no compelling reason that we should do it for them.

It's just that simple.

Yes.

It was a Saturday night, we had a thread up about a Mike Tyson fight and nobody would pony up the Pay For View money so they were either listening on the radio or reading some ticker and posting on the thread what was going on round by round.

hole_n_one, who usually does screen captures anyway, posted that as HIS interpretation of the fight.

I cannot remember when I have laughed so hard.

Just like you laughed at Showboat's graphic.

If you want to know the future of the US, just look at Calif. 13 years after prop 187 was overturned, we have high taxes, unmanageable debt, overwhelmed social services, and poor, overused infrastructure.

Ironically, the 'sensible' wing of the GOP was scared to death of 187, too, just as they are any tough 'enforcement' regime today.

As it turns out, if 187 were upheld the situation in CA would be far different - much better - than it is.

Again, thanks for nuthin, 'moderate' republicans. You'll never learn.

I don't suppose either one of you would like to name some names, would you?

Who are "those" Freepers?

"arasina WILL be writing an opus"

The only thing more silly and childish than an "opus" is the promise (or possibly threat?!) that one is going to write an opus. This is an internet forum for pete's sake. Just stop clicking on www.freerepublic.com. It's that easy.

Yes to the fence - It should be the first priority

Yes to guest workers - We need to make illegal immigration more difficult and legal immigration easier.

Yes to greater criminalization - They are lawbreakers!

A pro-american, hard-working, capitalist-loving vietnamese who applies for a visa to come to the USA is told up front that he has less than a 5% chance of being accepted because the US is trying to absorb the millions of illegal mexicans. It needs to be easier than this in order to be able to have more control. Right now, it's almost impossible to enter the US legally. This only encourages lawbreakers (though I don't justify it). And yes, we need to be tough on illegals here already. They are lawbreakers.

I wonder if we really should punish businesses for hiring illegals. In one way I say yes but in another...is'nt it OUR GOVERNMENT who is responsible for keeping out illegals? Why punnish businesses in the USA for our government's failures?

Face it! We have enough legal trouble trying to jail terrorists. You really think we will deport 12 million illegals? REALITY CHECK! DUH!

LET'S BUILD A WALL NOW!

We have plenty of time to talk about what to do with those already here. Let's build the wall before we have 30 million illegals.

If there is no bill this year (and it is looking increasingly as if there will not be), immigration reform will be dead for at least another three years.

That's better than passing the Specter-Kennedy-McCain monstrosity. No bill is better than a very very bad bill.

Bingo. No action is better than the Kennedy-Bush plan to legalize tens of millions and add tens of millions more through an open-border labor market scheme. Hopefully as the House GOP continues to distance themselves from the failed Bush Jr. presidency, they'll have no fear of putting his and others' amnesty-betrayal schemes where they belong - the dust bin.
