House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

Apparently not. What is that? What? I think a beer is calling me. See ya!
2. I was not the person who claimed they were under arrest; that was EternalVigilance
For all we know, they weren't "busted" at all.
Nope, and I am not keyboard commando pseudo expert about everything as you play one on FR.
Just saying that these problems are complex and don't think twitch of the nose, problem solved, chest thumping rhetoric that you love helps anything, except your ego.
Now THAT is creeping up on USENET quality flaming!
But you lose points on account of the target is big.
So, figure it out and act accordingly. Or do you prefer banging your head against the wall? Nothing lasts forever - the US had a good run, but it's coming to an end.
If you want to know the future of the US, just look at Calif. 13 years after prop 187 was overturned, we have high taxes, unmanageable debt, overwhelmed social services, and poor, overused infrastructure.
This is what's in store for you as well. Nothing will come of the House/Senate bills - they are too far apart. So the status quo remains, which is de facto amnesty.
I'm really going to lose sleep over the above.(/sarcasm)
Enforcement issues tend to get that way when the laws aren't enforced for years.
Senator Kennedy issued the following statement in response:
"I commend President Bush for backing the position that guest workers should be given the opportunity for earned citizenship. It is the only realistic way to break the cycle of illegality and is an essential aspect of the McCain-Kennedy three-part strategy to fix the broken system: stronger enforcement to improve our national security, a temporary worker program to meet the need for future flows that includes the opportunity for earned citizenship, and a path to earned citizenship for those who are already here.
As the President departs for Mexico today, he has before him an opportunity to fully embrace bipartisan comprehensive reform and the McCain-Kennedy plan. As he rightly says, we can be both a nation of laws and a welcoming nation."
This is what President Bush said on March 25, 2006
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/03/20060325.html
"Comprehensive immigration reform begins with securing our borders."
"To keep the promise of America, we must enforce the laws of America."
"One thing the temporary worker program would not do is provide
amnesty to those who are in our country illegally."
The key in that paragraph is the phrase legal and illegal.
Rapid illegal immigration is a phenomenon limited to the last 50 years of American history. It wasn't seen as a problem before the 1950`s and it didn't become a major problem until the 1980`s.
To your point. In 1910 there were 13.5 million foreign born people living in the US. These people came here legally and were US citizens. Illegal aliens weren't a measurable factor in the overall immigration data from that time.
Today by the best conservative estimates, there are some 12-15 million illegals living and working in the US. That ranges anywhere from 3.6% to 5.0% of the population. And that is the problem. Illegal immigration is rising each year.
If you go back to my original post, I bolded the main point I was trying to make. It was in answer to someones request about how many illegals have come here since 9-11. According to the website I linked to, the Center for Immigration Studies, some 3.7 million illegals have come into the US since 2000. That means roughly 3-million have come here since 9-11.
No loss. didn't you opus?
Hello? It was EV who posted the picture, claiming they were under arrest.
My above post proved who the liar is.
Me??? ... I'm just eating popcorn :0)
The choice is either "listen" to all the pros and cons
or actually be part of the solution.
IF people REALLY cared, they would get away from the computer and actually do something,
in the real world, to actually assist Homeland Security.
NOTE : The following post does not apply to
those FReepers who are
1) Active Duty
2) Those with disabilities
3) Care givers of those with disabilities
4) Those with financial hardships
5) Those who actually support our troops in other ways.
Good job. I'm keeping it;)
We're lucky they all came here to pick lettuce and that there aren't any criminals or terrorists among them.
If you'll scroll through and look at your screeds, you'll see I don't post on them.
I see them for what they are.
Opuses just don't mean what they use to. :-)
And you argued that maybe they were legals under arrest for drugs.
