Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

"What are you supposed to do in our capitalist economy when you find that you can't buy as much of something as you want at the rate you're offering? Lie? Steal? Break the law? How about adjusting the amount you're offering?"

Thats your big contribution to the problem, Raise wages?

What about $25 hr. for burger flipper, $50 hr. for basic field labor?

Your plan would only raise costs, close farms, and force more things to be imported.

I have a better idea, ban unions so business can fire the slugs, end welfare, deport everyone that refuses to work for a living.

We can send them all to some socialist craphole like France.

You're right then, what bill did the President sign that granted just Amnesty as my original, not addressed to you, question was?

You ask the same totally dishonest question all over again.

Amnesty doesn't have to be a bill. It can simply be refusing to enforce the law, which has been Bush's policy since he was governor of Texas. AN UNENFORCED LAW IS AN AMNESTY.

Which is what he did until a groundswell from the American people forced this issue on him.

What the hell are you talking about? Doing something about it was one of his campaign issues in 2000.

I just don't understand the hatred of Bush over this issue. It seems to even cause convenient memory loss so that you can make false statements with a clean conscience.

Don't hold your breath. The point is to bash Bush, no matter what. Facts don't matter.

What's missing is that a lot of posters have just STOPPED posting because they're sick of the bickering, which, of course, is exactly what some people around here want

Good posts everybody, and big applause to Coop for adding some much needed entertainment in response to the same tired bumpersticker "shoot first then deport them" sloganeering from the glass trailerpark pitchforkers.

Why is it that I suspect that you have no source for such a fantasized quote?

Why do I suspect you're full of it?

....but Mr. Bush told CNN Espanol yesterday that fencing off the border is "impractical."

I'm still here, glad to see you're still lurking. I wonder how many other old timers are out there, totally disgusted with the way this place changed?

AN UNENFORCED LAW IS AN AMNESTY

Excellent point. Which is why (1) illegals aren't going anywhere; (2) more are coming; (3) based on demographics, the Dems are close to having a permanent majority (starting in 2006?); and (4) look forward to (a) higher taxes & (b) reduced services.

As goes Calif, so goes the nation. The trick is to figure out how to thrive in this environment. It's just a mirror image of what's been going on in Calif for 20 years.

Of course it's an excuse, ANOTHER excuse, to bash President Bush, whose position has not changed since he ran in 2000.

Look at the border towns and check their "elected" US Representatives!

My former Congresswoman was the democrat Susan Davis of San Diego, a border town! She unseated GOP Brian Bilbray and has held the seat ever since.

You'd think, that border towns would elect congress persons who campaign on sealing the vorders etc., but that's not the case.

Much easier to blame POTUS, when in fact, his position has been clear for years.

Build a big nasty border wall.
Give them all amnesty and make them register.
Illegal immigrant income tax at 45%.
75% tax on ALL wire transfers ending in Mexico.
Seize all Mexican oil fields to pay for the illegals.

Oh, if our leaders had any guts....
