Unconfirmed in Wikipedia - Augusto Pinochet dies
Wikidpedia ^ | December 29, 2005 | Carlos Catillo.

Posted on 03/28/2006 4:21:36 PM PST by Atlantic Bridge

In an event that surprised thousands across the globe, former Chilean president Augusto Pinochet has succumbed to kidney failure at the Clinica Tabancura in Santiago, Chile. "We were taken aback," said Dr. Roberto Yono Xisto, "we were convinced he'd live." A nurse, Amanda Soifalsá, declared that, "I was taken aback at the General's death. He stopped breathing just like that."

Pinochet, held responsible for 3,197 deaths after a coup he led against Salvador Allende in 1973, was being accused of a varitey of crimes. Judge Jaime Guzmán declared that "it's truly a depressing momement because Augusto Pinochet wasn't brought to justice." Chilean President Ricardo Lagos declared that "I was eating nachos, just like Allende was before the coup, when I saw the news. I was shocked and choked. I cannot believe a murderer just died...and the judiciary system I improve was not able to bring him to justice."

His death came soon after he was arrested. "Alas, justice will not be done," commented Jaime Guzmán, a judge in the Pinochet case. However, conservative columnist Hermógenes Pérez de Arce declared Pinochet's death "to be a sad day in Chilean history. The man who saved us from the Marxist cancer has sadly passed away. I offer my condolences to the Pinochet family."

Presidential candidates Michelle Bachelet and Sebastián Piñera, due to compete in a runoff election on January 15, both campaigned agaist Pinochet during a plebiscite on 1988. Bachelet expressed "sadness that the detenidos desaparecidos will never see justice done. My government was going to destroy Pinochet." Piñera called for "national reconciliation and national renovation."

A funeral will be held on January 1, amid heavy security to avoid riots.

If this thread gets pulled then all NYT stories must be pulled as well.

At least this is fairly interesting.

a blatant joke - check what the names mean in spanish:

Dr. Roberto Yono Xisto == Dr. Robert "I don't exist"

Nurse Soifalsa == Nurse "I am false"

You're kidding, right?

BTW, this story is from last year and full of holes.
