Specter is in his 70's, in poor health, and he knows this is his swan song. The real chance to get rid of him and elect a true conservative was blown when George Bush refused to support Toomey in the primary. His payback? Specter holding hearings on the NSA matter!

I agree that Specter is a gift from Bush that keeps on giving. But Specters hearings are indeed a payback. He has no more intention of holding a real investigation on that than he has intentions to become an astronaut.
