As of midafternoon, more than 22,000 students had walked out of classes in "little bits here and there," according to Ellen Morgan, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Unified School District. A total of 60 schools were involved. Many students waved Mexican flags as they poured out of schools and onto city streets.
"Everything has been calm and there have been no reports of injuries or incidents," said Morgan.
The major walkouts were:
Kennedy High School in the San Fernando Valley, where 1,000 students marched toward San Fernando High School, at about 9:35 a.m.
At about 9:00 a.m., 1,000 students at Los Angeles High School at 4650 West Olympic Boulevard walked to Fairfax and Hollywood high schools, which were both locked down.
School police patrol cars stopped traffic as students walked down the streets, causing traffic jams along La Brea and Melrose avenues.
"If this law passes, what will happen? There would be no more Los Angeles High School. Nearly all of us are immigrants," said Yadira Pech, a 16-year-old junior from Los Angeles High.
"We need to show that we have a voice," Pech said.
Also about 9:30 a.m., 1,000 students from Belmont High School were marching toward City Hall downtown. Fifteen minutes later, LAPD officers estimated that the crowd downtown had grown to 1,500. Protesters waved flags and signs and chanted, "Latinos, stand up!"
"This is unjust. This land used to belong to us and now they're trying to kick us out," said Sandra Molina, 16, a junior from Downtown Magnet High School.

They already have, with the help of our government.
Hell, Mexico still "belongs" to you, but you're here instead.
So the taxpayers who are providing this will save a FORTUNE. And this is a bad thing why?
Yes, for 20 years California was part of Mexico, before Mexico 'kicked out the Spanish' (who had Calif. for over 100 yrs), who 'kicked out' the Indians.
You know, Mexico sucks. Africa sucks. Indian reservations suck.
Why do these people think can do any better with anything else?

One that doesn't cover the treaty of Guadaloupe Hidalgo, apparently.
If the states were still part of Mexico, it would be just like Mexico is today and illegals would still be crossing the border.

And the rest of us want you to use that voice all you want, just on the other side of the border preferably behind a tall wall also. Our taxes are paying for your education so we would like to have some say in how its spent.
"Us?" As in the first-person plural? I call BS. It might have belonged to your great-great-great-whatevers at some point in history, but, y'see, that was back then. Allow me to introduce you to a little concept called "land ownership." Land can be owned. This means that it belongs to someone and not others. This ownership can be transferred. This means that the land belongs to a new person and not the person to whom it belonged before.
It works the same way as with anything else. Let's say that you buy a churro from a street vendor. That churro then belongs to you; the vendor can't take it back. It doesn't matter if it used to be his great-great-great grandfather's churro; its ownership has been transferred.
Ahh, but you don't like the way that the ownership was transferred. You think it happened in an unjust fashion, and that California should be Mexican again because of this.
Well, it's fortunate that I'm here to explain another concept to you, called "acquisitive prescription." We have that in Louisiana too, since we're a Civilian jurisdiction, just like Mexico. Now the way that acquisitive prescription works is this: if someone lives on a piece of land for long enough, it becomes theirs just by virtue of them being there. The longest it can take for this to happen is thirty years, and, well, we've been there for longer than that.
Don't like the acquisitive prescription argument, either? Okay, try this one: right of conquest. Now shut the hell up.
Personally, I think that it might be a good idea to give the whole state of California back to Mexaco.
Gay rights, illegal immigration, Hollywood's influence on our kids, etc.
