McCain's problem is that political parties very rarely nominate mavericks, and McCain has decided the only way he'll ever be president is as the Republican nominee. So today he cares very much about what hurts him or helps him in his own party.

McCain's non-conservative, non-Republican sympathizers, they argue, have always overrated his progressive credentials. It's time to face the fact that McCain really is a conservative Republican and stop hoping he's something else.

He either doesn't know what he believes, but he believes it very passionately (huh?!) or he is so into being politically expedient that it shows a lot more than most politicians show it.
I posted this once last year or so, but it is worth repeating. My brother was a campaign aid on the "Straight Talk Express" tour. He worked non-stop and McCain's idiot manager never gave my brother a letter of reccomendation, which is SOP for playing the game. What a guy?!
"But alas, McCain put Ted Kennedy ahead of his political chances. I hope he goes out quickly, leaving the field to the viable candidates."
Yes, the sooner he leaves, the sooner he can run on the Dem ticket in '08.
As an Arizonan and registered Republican, I'm gonna make it my mission in 08' not to vote for our dear ol' John twice.
You're right about immigration - and he deserves a zero for the McCain Feingold bill which violates the First Amendment. But to demonstrate that ALL pols make some mistakes -- let's not forget who signed the bill and made it law - yes, the one who fliped on the issue, Bush. One the positive side, McCain is definitely a fiscal conservative (unlike Bush!) and he's been a stalwart supporter of the war in Iraq and a strong national defense. He also beats Hillary in the polls. How many of us would prefer her? Sometimes if we think we'll only vote for a pol with whom we agree on everything we end up not even going to the polls.
Unbelieveable that McCain is from Arizona, as well. You'd think if there was one issue where he'd take a stand, it would be this one--one where his entire state's financial livelihood is going down the crapper thanks to swarms of illegals overrunning the state's health and education programs.
McCain just gave the middle finger to his constituents and patted the ever-growing number of wolves devouring them on the head.
McCain's hope is that we all have terrible memories, and that we will forget his siding with the dems on issue after issue, and going on tv programs and allowing the MSM to use his name to bash the president. I can't vote for McCain, I could vote for Rudy even though i don't agree with him on many issues just because he is loyal, and has been helpful. McCain on the other hand has not been.
How do you feel McCain really feels about terrorism, the war on terrorism, Iran and keeping the taxes low.
Depends on the next poll and what the Washington Post says.
Guiliani loyal? Look I'm no fan of McCain and I think that Rudy did plenty of good things to clean up NYC, but I'd never vote for him. He supported Mario Cuomo for governor 1994...one of the most liberal NY givernors ever. Not only that but he also is pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. Rudy has lots of good qualities and I don't want to speak ill of the man, but presidential material he's not.
a RINO in the white house wouldn't be such a problem with a few more conservatives in the senate. One of the most important things in the next few years is going to be another 1 or 2 supreme court nominations. We cannot afford to let Hitlery pick her kind of candidates.
A RINO in the White House would give us more Souters or worse? Why bother electing Republicans if they're just going to be "blue-minded" anyway?
You would like 2 more Ginsburgs?
forgot to add: I realize M'Cain won't get the nomination. It's a bit like mad Howey Dean, he's peaking too early. And even the democrats weren't insane enough to pick Dean, we certainly won't pick M'cain.
Very good VIK
The border issue IS the only issue that can keep repubs in charge.
Of course I don't want two more Ginsburgs...but if we're going to battle to win, why not go for the gold? Bush Sr, while not a RINO, didn't do much to help our cause in terms of shifting the court to a more sane direction. I just want a sensible judiciary. Senators are spinelss (all of them...some more than others) and they need to be led by a strong executive branch. Senators always capitulate one way or another (Case in point the 90-9 vote against torture that McCain cooked up).
So anyway...no Ginsburgs...but without a strong conservative leader we lose the nomination battle before we ever get there.
