A sampling of polls reveals that most Americans are concerned about the financial impact of illegal immigration and fret over porous borders, lax enforcement and easygoing policies that could reward or encourage lawbreakers.
The concern cuts across demographics. A Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey of 1,892 registered voters released March 3 found that 88 percent think illegal immigration is a serious problem; 83 percent of respondents identified as children or grandchildren of immigrants agreed. The margin of error was two percentage points.
In addition, 62 percent opposed measures that would make it easier for illegals to become citizens; 56 percent of the immigrant descendants agreed. Seventy-two percent did not favor allowing illegals to get driver's licenses; 66 percent of the immigrant descendants agreed.
"If you're not here legally, you shouldn't get government benefits, Americans say overwhelmingly," said poll director Maurice Carroll.
Many Americans equate illegal immigration with a threat to the nation's security. A Time magazine survey of 1,002 adults released in late January found that three-quarters would penalize employers hiring illegals and 70 percent felt illegals increased the likelihood of terrorism. The margin of error was three percentage points.
Those with financial clout are also uneasy. A Gallup Poll of 802 U.S. investors released yesterday found that 80 percent said the federal government should do more to prevent illegal immigration. Although 84 percent said illegals mostly took jobs Americans didn't want, 62 percent said illegals hurt the national investment climate. Sixty-eight percent said illegals cost taxpayers too much because of their demands for public education and health care. The margin of error was four percentage points.
Gallup analyst Dennis Jacobe was surprised by the findings, saying, "When eight in 10 of those individuals who probably benefit the most from illegal immigration want the federal government to act to prevent...

Quick Time, huh? Thanks!!! Now IF I remember next time someone asks me...I'll know! ;)
LA, right?
I'm so glad all these hard working America lovers have been let in.
This isn't surprising at all to me. No one I know is for illegal aliens. Too bad both parties won't get together and do the right thing for once.
I'm so glad I live in Alaska, its all redneck white trash up here! I have not seen but maybe a couple of non white persons ( I really hate being PC) up here in ages except the native Indians.
Luckily it will stay that way for a long time.
The most evil software ever invented...... Quicktime
Thanks for that link. Everybody needs to see this video.
I know that....use your email, folks. Just send the link so it doesn't clog up everyone's inbox, but dang it, send it around the world...
Si...I mean yes.
Danke!
and all FReepers. Do you get the feeling that we're losing control of our country? It's estimated that today 3000 illegals entered the USA; half a million demonstrated in LA and the Hispanic mayor, Villaraigosa, speaking before a mob said there were "no illegals here today" and that the only thing "un-American and illegal" was HR 4437 (Sensenbrenner's bill). The Archbishop of LA, Mahoney, urged defeat of HR 4437 and urged catholics to aid and support illegals. It is estimated that the wages paid to citizens have been depressed by $200 billion per year due to illegal labor. The Federation for American Immigration Reform announced that it's costing tax payers $12 billion per year to educate children of illegals in primary and secondary grades and $1 billion per year to reimburse hospitals (which are being forced to curtail public emergency services) for services rendered to illegals. And more than half the Hispanic students in S. California drop out before graduation. The Federal Bureau of Prisons announced that 30% of federal inmates are not US citizens and the daily $63 it spends on each one amounts to a tax payer bill of $3 million PER DAY. Public school districts are facing insolvency. The havoc wrought by the crime and violence brought to us by the drug cartel exceeds the billions mark. Unlike all previous (legal) immigrants we have created a permanent underclass and subculture that is not being - and has little desire to be - assimilated. WE are now expected to live in a Balkanized society and be bi-lingual. Did any of you see the senatorial buffoons today on C-span as debated immigration? They were trying to see who could out-amnesty whom. And Lindsay Graham should get the RINO of the year award for grinning like a simpleton as he endorsed the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill. Did ANY of these pols - or George Bush - ever stumble across Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution which says, "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them AGAINST INVASION." Sunday night Drudge had on his 50 state radio broadcast an Hispanic who stated that we're "taking back the country a few houses and a few blocks at a time." And then - most exasperating - the Dems are pandering for the free votes and Republican business interests for the cheap labor. NEVER has the mass of citizens been so opposed to a coterie of unprincipled politicians who are willing to ruin the nation for personal power and partisan gain. I know many will think this is hype but I'd like to hear some serious ideas about what we can do -- the future of the nation is at stake and we can't just rearrange the proverbial deck chairs of the Titanic. Any such thoughts would be welcome.
Very important ping...
I DO think maybe all of us, who are in favor of the government PROVING they can enforce the immigration laws we already have on the books, SHOULD on a determined day and time walk to the main street closest to our homes, with an AMERICAN flag, and just stand there for an hour or so (just long enough for the "media" to count us).
I threatened our Senators and Representatives with just such a demonstration. I pointed out they probably would not appreciate such as it would so overwhelming!! I haven't talked to anyone, yet, who is in favor of all these additional green cards, guest workers, visas---whatever they choose to call them.....
It may take that long, yes. Just, exactly, what is your point?
Is there any way you can get to Windows Media? I don't have Quicktime----I refuse!
Here is the e-mail address for the President of James D. Spaniolo, President of UT - Arlington, where "Dr." Jose Angel Guitterz is a professor (the first voice on this video).
I sent him an e-mail speaking against this racist. We all know how academics respond to this, but ostracizing this jerk on this own campus and turning the temp up a few degrees sounds worth an e-mail. The world needs to hear this disgraceful human being speak.
