I remember our own Captain being keel-hailed when the Enterprise ran aground in Tokyo Bay (c. 1986, if I recall correctly). Even though it was the fault of the Japanese harbor pilots aboard, he's still the Captain and responsible for everything good, bad or indifferent.

In this case, however, I believe that the international incident (nuclear-powered, nuclear armed ship running aground in Green Japan), carried far more weight in the consideration of the circumstances.

That was taken in San Diego Bay. The pointy building in the center is 1 American Plaza, and the smaller building just behind and to the right is the Emerald Shapery Plaza. Those two buildings are known as "The Phillips Screwdriver" and "The Allen Wrench Set" because of their shapes.

The aircraft carrier to the right is the USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41), which is now a museum.
