Stressed Mexican Police Chief Resigns

MONTERREY, Mexico - The former police chief of the border city of Nuevo Laredo on Friday said he resigned because he was tired from the stress of working in a city dominated by drug cartels fighting a bloody turf war.

Omar Pimentel, 38, resigned late Wednesday, hours after police found three charred bodies dumped by the side of a road leading into Nuevo Laredo. Police did not immediately know how the bodies got there or who was behind the killings.

"The truth is that I was tired. It's a tough job and with so much pressure that it becomes mentally overwhelming," Pimentel said in a telephone interview.

Pimentel, who surrounded himself with at least a dozen bodyguards toting automatic rifles, said he plans to complete a master's degree in law and spend more time with his wife and three children.

The department is still struggling to find qualified replacements to increase its strength to 600 officers after half of the force of 700 was dismissed in an effort to weed out corruption and alleged ties to drug cartels.

Pimentel's predecessor, Alejandro Dominguez, was gunned down just seven hours after being sworn in last June.

The city of 330,000 across from Laredo, Texas, has been caught in a turf war between rival drug gangs fighting for billion-dollar smuggling routes into the United States. Since Jan. 1, 57 people have been slain in Nuevo Laredo, compared to 23 during the same period last year.

He's actually showing the audience just how far up his body his sphincter puckered when he found those three bodies and realized that he was next.

Perhaps the U.N. should send peace keeping troops to New Laredo?

It would not be surprising if he was in danger from the men under his own command as much as any drug kingpin.

over 9 months in office .. impressive considering..

I wish his successor luck. Unfortunately the border states have been corrupted and infested by narcoterrorists and collaborators, and the federal government has been unwilling to take the necessary action to restore order and security to those regions.

He wants to live.

THis is the "plomo o plata" (lead or silver) culture now being imported into the USA with the immivasion.

Like I said. It ain't a Nazi salute he's giving there.

Once he found those corpses his sphincter puckered so tight that if you shoved a lump of coal up there in a week he would have squeezed out a diamond.

He wants to live.

I think that about sums it up. What they need is someone into martyrdom, who says it often on Mexican national TV, and then is offed, and them maybe there is enough shame and embarrassment to effect change. Any volunteers?

immivasion.........keeper from the wordsmith !

This criminal trash is going to body armor and major caliber handguns and rifles. They are also getting real smart as to their convoy security...... two maybe more vehicles provide security for each other per intel on the street. No diversion from the cargo with speeding or other petty crime. They shoot......they are not afraid to shoot. They will shoot. They are shooting....... gonna be a hot summer I spose........
