LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Tens of thousands of immigrant rights advocates from across Southern California marched Saturday in protest of federal legislation that would build more walls along the U.S.-Mexico border and make helping illegal immigrants a crime.

The march followed rallies on Friday that drew throngs of protesters to major cities around the nation.

I hope people see these photos and get on the phone to call their Senators and Representatvies and tell them that this is not acceptable and the citizens of this nation will not be bullied by a bunch of thugs who come into this country illegally and then suck off the teat of society.

Why don't we just annex Mexico and get it over with?

That is what they want, and so does our Presidente Jorge Bush. Thank you Washington, DC, for protecting our borders...and the soverignty of our nation.

You are completely correct. I know many, many LEGAL Mexican residents who barely speak English. I disapprove, I think (from my personal experience) that if you plan on spending any time in another country, you should learn to speak the language.

Unfortunately, many of the LEGAL Hispanic residents don't speak English.

I think we look xenophobic if we simply make language the litmus test of who should be here and who shouldn't. You CANNOT tell who is illegal simply by looking at them.

Well, this is it!.. finally the senate will deal with the problem which compels me to take a more active roll here in FR. This is THE MOMENT to act!... If we have any ideas to offer, anything at all, THIS IS THE TIME TO DO IT...***NOW***, A MONTH FROM NOW IT WILL BE TOO LATE!!!!. You will probably see this post plastered all over the place today, so have some patience with me, this is important. I doubt it I will ever be this involved again.

I will write and call everyone I can think can make a difference on this issue. This has always been a big issue with me and I am frankly surprised I don't hear that much more noise about this here in FR. I would have thought this would provoke more excitement here, since this issue is SO IMPORTANT for anyone who loves this country. Now, if you don't agree with me, that's ok too, we all must do what we must do. More than anything I wan the borders shut/secured/closed... and in exchange I am willing to be "constructive" if that is the only way to accomplish it. Because if the border is "closed" (physically and with the right legislation, the problem will go away for the most part... not completely, let's not be naive, but the problem will be generally solved).

Ok, here is what I came up with... Notice I begin to lose it in point [5]. I would like your HELP in putting a letter together I can send to all the people I would like to persuade. It's one thing to bi** about it, and another to put it down in a way that makes some sense. Feel free to make ANY changes. Add important points that I am missing. I plan to use this letter at least 20 - 30 times. So please Help.

======================

[1] Above all, STOP the flow of illegal Immigration on the border with Mexico NOW! No only for the problem of having people illegally in this country and all the ramifications that presents, but more importantly for security... so that no one will be able to cross the border to harm us. I don't believe for one minute that this is not possible to do!... With all the technology we have, building walls where most needed and man power, legislation to punish those who hire them, this is possible to do.

[2] Once the flow/security has been accomplished, then we can deal with the Illegals we have here now in a number of ways.

[3] Yes, we should increase the number of legal immigrants, to make it easier for businesses who need to hire them under the old premise, that they are willing to do the jobs that Americans don't want to do. This is a fine argument. However, if a business needs people, congress should make sure, that no one wants to do the job. It's one thing to pick up vegetables, and it is another to work in the construction business. Two different things. I can understand the argument when it comes to people needed for picking up vegetables or doing cleaning in general, but I don't buy the argument when it comes to construction and other similar trades. Example: If we need people to pick up vegetables, then we should make sure that person will have a permit to work doing that (or something equivalent) for a number of years, say 4 years. Assuming that someone fulfills the "contract" and learn English to a pre-agreed level, then they would qualify for permanent residency.... etc etc etc.

[4] Another important point is that not only Mexicans should be considered as "guess workers." There should be people from other countries as well. Having a huge population from one country alone, can bring difficult consequences down the line (we all know them). Let's not forget those people all over the world who follow the rules and wait for years for the chance to come here legally

[5] And here is where the congress earns their money. How, the details of how to handle all this people have to be figured out by the congress and senate. But basically, AMNESTY or rewarding people for braking the law should be avoided. Different categories with difference considerations must be created for different situations. People who have been here for 20 years, should be treated differently from people who have been here for 5 years. People who have been clean and had no trouble with the law should be rewarded as supposed to those who have not, which should be deported actually. People who have learned English or other skills, should be re-warded as supposed to those who don't. People who are working and whose Employers make a case for them, should be given preference, The principle that some people must leave the country and then apply to do it legally, must be seriously considered. Not everyone should be allowed to stay here as an automatic... .... etc, etc, etc.

[6] And most importantly of all. This problem should be fixed once and for all!, for ever!... from now on, companies, households, whoever, hires illegals should be ready to pay a price. The lines of people crossing the border should be a thing of the past. Every advantage should be given to the businesses who need this type of "guess worker," to do legally, but on the other hand, they should be punished - severely - if they do it illegally.

Technically that is true, but that latest count took place in 94. Can you imagine what it is now?

I'm thinking 40 million would be a lot closer to the truth. Maybe more.
