Campaign (Now) Says (Katherine) Harris Won't Turn To Inheritance.
Orlando Sentinel - harris Campaign ^ | Jim Stratton

Posted on 03/25/2006 3:01:00 PM PST by MindBender26

In an effort to jump-start her sputtering Senate campaign, Rep. Katherine Harris went on national television invoking the memory of her late father and saying the money he left her will form the financial foundation of her challenge to Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson.

Now the Harris campaign says that's not the case.

Campaign spokeswoman Morgan Dobbs said Thursday that Harris will sell her existing assets rather than rely on money from her father, a bank executive who died in January.

The Republican from Longboat Key appeared on national television saying she would use the money left to her by her father to infuse her campaign with a badly needed shot of financing.

The announcement was the centerpiece of her appearance on Fox News, where Harris reaffirmed her commitment to the race.

"I'm going to take his legacy that he gave to me, everything I have, and I'm going to put it in this race," she told Sean Hannity. "I'm going to commit my legacy from my father -- $10 million."

A moment later, Hannity asked, "This is money from your father?"

"Yes," replied Harris.

Who cares? Is it YOUR money or is hers?? More important than her looks discussed and ridiculed here, why not instead help her get elected, because she IS going to be OUR candidate to unseat frigging nelson???

I don't care that she uses her own money, whether through earning it or inheritance, to pay for the campaign. I care that she is trying to weasel the facts, and it's discussion-worthy that her campaign is so poorly run at this point that a mistake of this magnitude would have been made. I have no doubt that if a Democrat had tried to weasel with the facts about where his campaign money came from, everyone here would be screaming bloody murder. I have made no comment about her looks.

I'm not saying that Katherine Harris & Jayne Mansfield lived similar private lives. I'm comparing Harris's fumble-prone, endlessly gaffe-ridden CAMPAIGN to Jayne Mansfield's self destruction during the last years of her life. Both are tragic.

Not too many politicians have been the victims of assassination attempts. Katherine Harris was a victim of such an attempt in 2004. From the Web site, The Smoking Gun:

OCTOBER 27--A Florida man has been charged with attempting to run over controversial Republican congresswoman Katherine Harris with his Cadillac. According to the below Sarasota Police Department report, Barry Seltzer, 46, told cops that he was simply exercising his "political expression" when he drove his car at Harris and several supporters, who were campaigning last night at a Sarasota intersection. Seltzer--pictured at right in a booking photo--allegedly drove up on a sidewalk and headed directly for Harris before swerving "at the last minute." Harris told officers that "she was afraid for her life and could not move as the vehicle approached her," according to the report. For his part, Seltzer--who's a registered Democrat--told cops, "I intimidated them with the car. They were standing in the street." He added, "I did not run them down, I scared them a little!" That explanation did not stop investigators from arresting Seltzer for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony. Harris, Florida's former secretary of state, is best known for her role in the aftermath of the state's disastrous 2000 presidential election.

I do not know if Katherine Harris is the best candidate for U.S. Senator. I am not even sure if she is really a conservative. However, the scorn she has received from the MSM and the outright hatred of the radical left, including lunatics like Barry Seltzer do speak well for her. A person is honored by the enemies he or she makes. Katherine Harris certainly has made more than her share of enemies.

Huh? Again.

Mansfield was boozing, scamping and struggling for purpose in life as a big chested 50's porn version of Marilyn Monroe when she died.

You are comparing this to the problems of a conservative Republican Christian's political bid for a Senate seat?

That's nuts. Unless you have some sort of fantasy about Harris going on?

Even then -- sorry.

I like Harris and would be happy to vote for her if I lived in Florida, I just don't see Ken Mehlman as being a huge draw.

Every one of Harris's apologists keeps saying that KH is going through a rough patch and it'll end.

Well, it didn't end when she announced. It didn't end when she started on the campaign trail. It didn't end when she intimidated other Republicans out of the race. It didn't end when she announced she would spend her inheritance. And it didn't end when she did that bizarre interview with "Nightline."

IT NEVER ENDS!!! And it's not going to end until her candidacy ends. It's time to give her ill-conceived candidacy excuses. My hope is that she ends it in a dignified way that's worthy of her and finds something better to do with her time and resources.

Well said, Nelson is eminently defeat-able. A decent candidate will make it so.

I like Harris, but she is in over her head.

Yes we are. They are the FReepers who joined a month or two ago who are promoting KH as hard as they can, so Nelson can run against the candidate he knows would be easiest to beat!

Bender, here's another quote about your bed-fellow bill nelson:................

WASHINGTON An executive with a Dubai-owned company has withdrawn his nomination as head of the agency that oversees ports.
President Bush nominated David Sanborn in January to head the Maritime Administration.

Sanborn is D-P World's director of operations for Europe and Latin America.

Senator John Kerry and Florida Senator Bill Nelson put holds on Sanborn's nomination, saying they needed to know more about his role in the process that allowed D-P World to purchase the port operations in the first place.

Please undersand:

I have been with Nelson a number of times. I covered him occasionally when he was a Congresscritter and extensively when he flew as a pseudo-astronaut on the Shuttle. (True story from Nelson's Shuttle mission. The real astronauts thought he was a PR seeking glory-hound who was only on mission for his own benefit. It had nothing to do with fact his district encompassed the Cape, although that was his excuse for the ride.

Nelson got in front of every camera there was. He even had business cards printed Bill Nelson, Astronaut-Congressman!

So, the real zoomies hated him. To get get even, they "confided" to him that the real problem of launch was that the G forces and severe shaking the Shuttle endures during the boost phase serves to "shake" all the fecal matter our of anyone on the Shuttle, so he had better take a VERY strong enema the night before launch.

They have him SIX Fleet Emema bottles and said, "Here, use all these."

He did.

At the post mission party, Nelson is there, complete with TV cameras. The real astronauts presented him with a large cake with a Fleet Enema bottle, with fins added, representing the rocket.

It was labeled "Astro-nauht Nelson's Real Rocket To Ride."

End of story.

Have met him a number of times since. He is another Clinton in may ways. Quite personable when you are talking to him, a very good looking wife (much better than the Hildabeast). He works a room very well, makes everyone think he cares only about them, smiles constantly.... in other words, the typical BS Dem-Lib.

He's a nice guy, some say... but Eva said Hitler was nice.

The real problem with fighting Nelson is that he has given us very little red meat to go after. No major fubars. Certainly he votes the wrong way, but so did Slick Willy.

In addition, sitting Congressmen are rarely beaten. Sitting Senators are VERY rarely beaten. He has had six years to do his "man of the people" act at every church, synaggue, school, etc in the State. Few people really "love" him, the way many of love hos KH stood up against the Dem machine, but many "like" him.

Nelson is a nice schlump who missed his chance to be the editor of some left-wing monthly literary magazine.

Where BN is hated by very few, KH is hated by bazillions. Her negative numbers are astronomical. She is hated for the same reasons we love her, but the MSM have labeled her a a woman to hate,,,, and people do.

With negative numbers like hers, and the Dems having taken a blood oath to spend and do whatever it takes to beat her, she doesn't have a change.

Now, the real worrles, part 2. KH has been her own worst enemy in this campaign. There have been a number of serious gaffes that a candidate cannot afford to make, even in a close race,,, and her race is far from close.

1. The illegal campaign contributions in TWO races, and trying to use the "I didn;t know' excuse the second time, too.

2. The "I'm a poor little rich girl" fiasco where she tried to get the sympathy vote by announcing that she was spending Daddy's $10 million on her campaign. Not a smart move for someone trying to bind with the working class. (Spend the $ if she wants to, but for God's sake, don't admit it ... or announce it on national TV as she did!)

3. Reneging on the commitment to spend Daddy's $10 mil. (Even worse than the voters' perception of stupidity is the perception of indecisiveness!)

4. Firing her long-time media spokesperson-advisor, (probably not a bad idea)... then rehireing him an hour later.

All the above said, I love the lady and what she did. She is one tough broad. I have FEC maxed out to her every campaign, and will this time of she is the nominee.

But I am also a pragmatist. KH should be. She knows she has nowhere near any possible chance of victory, but she won't let the party work to get another candidate.

That said, I am not supporting KH at this time, because she cannot win for the all-too-obvious reasons pointed about above.

If she is nominated, I will support her with $ again.

This election is not about electng KH senator. It's about electing some Republican senator from Florida, and it cannot be KH.

All the above said, can you now please stop the personal attacks? Please ask KH to work for victory, not for personal gain

You are a sure victim for the carrot that nelson has been dangled in front of you during those meeting you have had with the "ass-tronaut"!
I have also met this weasel at a prayer breakfast at Bal Harbour in Miami just after "landing." He was trying to give us his hypocrisy of a Christian saying that Gagarin (Sputnik) had said he never saw any sign of God in space. The master hypocrite nelson said HE saw God EVERYWHERE in space. I just wonder what God think of b.n.'s liberal stands on abortion and all the other liberal anti-Christian programs nelson support!??!
Ever heard of "Reclaiming America for Christ" out of Ft. Lauderdale? The people there are many and they can't stand this anti-Christian's voting record in the Senate. You see bender, we say to the liberals; how in the world can you ever be a Christian and a democRAT at the same time? Even in many black churches here they are pondering on that!
Yeah, bender with all your anti-K.H. spamming babble, please tell us; what is your REAL motivation for that? Your spamming is certainly NOT edifying to the Conservatives cause!! YOUR "drive-by" LSM's talking points against K.H. is NOT going to work for you. K.H. is going to sweep the floor with the "ass-naught" the same way that Jeb wiped the floor off with mcbride, and we heard the exact same tunes as yours from the LSM then. November 8 your are going to eat crow, so just get over it!!! Since you want us to think you have so many connections with the politician and you are a Conservative (???) why not join K.H. campaigning???

Poul, you are brilliant! Defeat Bill Nelson by calling him Anti-Christian to the voters in Fort Lauderdale! Call him Anti-Christian in one of the most Jewish areas 100 square miles in the country!

Brilliant.

(Make sure you get on TV again! This idea is brilliant!!!!!) :~(

>just wonder what God think of b.n.'s liberal stands on abortion and all the other liberal anti-Christian programs nelson support!??!

He undoubtably dislikes them greatly, as much as He did when Nelson was elected the first time.

God may hate abortion, but he certainly doesn't prevent the election of candidates who support it, does he?

The secret is something called "winning the election."

Unless we get a candidate who can defeat him, Nelson will win again.

Poul, Wake up - Smell coffee!

First rule of elective politics: In this country, to govern you must first win the election.

Rule two: Start with a candidate the majority of the people at least like!

I love KH. The statewide voters don't.
