I have never listened to Mark Steyn, actually, I never listen to the radio - but I do visit Michelle Malkin daily and she has this posted.

"You cannot ask Americans or Britons to expend blood and treasure to build a society in which a man can be executed for his choice of religion. You cannot tell a Canadian soldier serving in Kandahar that he, as a Christian, must sacrifice his life to create a Muslim state in which his faith is a capital offense."

"At some point we have to face down a culture in which not only the mob in the street but the highest judges and academics talk like crazies."

The time has come to withdraw every Western troop from Muslim lands.

And the time has also come to deport every Muslim from Western lands.

Let them live their own way, in their own lands.

If Islam is a religion one can only convert to, not from, then in the long run it is a threat to every free person on the planet.

Islamics are the BORG, you cannot reason with them, you
cannot relate to them, you can only destroy them or

YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED!

Actually, we're not expending blood and treasure on behalf of the Afghans, but on behalf of our own citizens. We don't want another 3000 to die by letting the Muzzzie crazies use it as a training ground.

You know, I am almost to the point I could agree to the proposal to withdraw entirely from all muslim land IF we would also expel them from ours, the First Amendment notwithstanding. They can keep their oil, we'll drill our own. After all, we have machines to use the oil in and continue to grow, while they do not.

Fantasy? Yes, and not well thought out, but not much different a fantasy then thinking the Moslem World will change without our boot on their throat.

You don't need a radio.

Most prominent Western leaders sound way too eager to climb into the weak-horse suit and audition to play the rear end.

I love this guy!

Exactly. Freedom of conscience and equal rights for minorities is the key to the West's sense of self. Its who we are - and its not we have to change... its Islam. We are not fighting so Muslims can impose their beliefs by coercion upon every one else. If that's the wave of the future, we need to lay down a line here and tell the Muslim World they will not be allowed to cross it. Its that simple.

You left out the best part:

". At some point we have to face down a culture in which not only the mob in the street but the highest judges and academics talk like crazies. Abdul Rahman embodies the question at the heart of this struggle: If Islam is a religion one can only convert to, not from, then in the long run it is a threat to every free person on the planet.
What can we do? Should governments with troops in Afghanistan pass joint emergency legislation conferring their citizenship on this poor man and declaring him, as much as Karzai, under their protection?

In a more culturally confident age, the British in India were faced with the practice of "suttee" - the tradition of burning widows on the funeral pyres of their husbands. Gen. Sir Charles Napier was impeccably multicultural:

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks, and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

India today is better off without suttee. If we shrink from the logic of that, then in Afghanistan and many places far closer to home the implications are, as the Prince of Wales would say, "ghastly."

Steyn has hit it out of the park again. Crystal clear in his thinking and reasoning.

I wish Queen Elizabeth II a long life. May she outlive her eldest son so that Charles the Twit never becomes king. It is hard enough to listen to him ("the Defender of the Faiths" - plural, as he likes to regard himself ) as Prince of Wails. As King, he would be insufferable.
