Christian Youth Rally in San Francisco
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 3/24/06 | Joe Garafoli

Posted on 03/24/2006 10:40:10 PM PST by TFFKAMM

More than 25,000 evangelical Christian youth landed Friday in San Francisco for a two-day rally at AT&T Park against "the virtue terrorism" of popular culture, and they were greeted by an official city condemnation and a clutch of protesters who said their event amounted to a "fascist mega-pep rally."

"Battle Cry for a Generation" is led by a 44-year-old Concord native, Ron Luce, who wants "God's instruction book" to guide young people away from the corrupting influence of popular culture.

Luce, whose Teen Mania organization is based in Texas, kicked off a three-city "reverse rebellion" tour Friday night intended to counter a popular culture that he says glamorizes violence and sex. The $55 advance tickets for two days of musical performances and speeches were sold out, but walk-up admission was available for $199.

After stops in Detroit and Philadelphia in the next few weeks, Luce wants to unleash a "blitz" of youth pastors into the communities to do everything from work with the homeless to find new ways to bring others to Christ. He challenged youth leaders to double the size of their groups in the next year.

And then he plans to return to San Francisco next year to chart their progress.

That's bad news to Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, who told counterprotesters at City Hall on Friday that while such fundamentalists may be small in number, "they're loud, they're obnoxious, they're disgusting, and they should get out of San Francisco..."

That's twice in two days the City Council has condemned Christian organizations for activities which are both lawful and encouraged in other parts of the country.

What was the other condemnation? Any links to it? Thanks.

Figured someone would complain about Christian groups charging for a concert. Not everything can be free, ya know....

Yeah. Had to do it. When you mix money & just about anything (politics, religion, enviro groups, etc...) lines get blurred and profit becomes rules over message.

Put me down as not a fan of mega-anything.

The Christian kids got a field trip to look into the exfoliated face of evil. The San Franciscans got some tourist dollars along with a small portion of nostalgic animosity they felt growing up.

Everyone played their roles and went home suitably victimized and righteously outraged. A good time was had by all.

Having reviewed the thread so far I had a slight off topic thought. Perhaps the board of supervisors should rethink their support of the military.

After all didn't they say the police could defend the city? Weren't they just invaded and punked by the very worst threat they could imagine? Christian youth ministers and young uncorrupted Christians?

Why, the next thing you know they will be holding GOP Conventions there. Is there no community standards, no decency in Sodom...sorry, San Francisco anymore?

A city can be beautiful and still be rotting from the inside. I think the official condmenation of the Christian youths by the city clearly demonstrates the rot.

Truly a waste, too--I've been to SF several times and it is a beautiful place...from a distance...

No I don't live in places like San Francisco and have never had a desire to do so.

You can put lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig.

I think from an outward appearance San Francisco is a nice place to visit.

However. it is the cancerous nut jobs who make the city decisions and think that because San Francisco is home on the range to perversion, that I differ with.

Leno is more than "bad", he is "evil". Ultimately he will bring destruction to the city itself when it finally becomes necessary to pacify it militarily ~ and that's probably going to happen pretty soon at the rate Leno and his running dog lackeys are going.

Do these evangelicals think the lefty homosexuals are going to change?

Reality check time!

I salute the evangelicals' stance-taking, but they should concern themselves with continuing to live by example, rather than waste their time trying to force others to live the evangelical way.

I think what Blzbba meant is that they shouldn't travel long distances to a strange city to preach to people many of whom have themselves traveled long distances to a strange city because they didn't want to be preached to...

You live there?.....

In spite of some beautiful surroundings---and it truly is!, do you really enjoy the political mindset of this liberal establishment?....on a day to day basis?

I don't see how any conservative can....

..although!....there are many who must live in and around the area.

I don't believe God has given up on San Francisco....yet.

In January, 30,000 brave souls marched on the Embarcadero supporting Life!...and protesting Roe vs. Wade.....the remnant..must surely be in the San Francisco area!

..and now we have 25,000 youths brave enough to be there, knowing what many locals must think about them, and yet pressing on in spite of name calling, jeers and lewd behavior towards them.

Oh, so he prefers the JONAH model?   ;^)

But we do have the Ezekial model...

NIV Ezekiel 3:17-27
 17.  "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.
 18.  When I say to a wicked man, `You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for  his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.
 19.  But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself.
 20.  "Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before him, he will die. Since you did not warn him, he will die for his sin. The righteous things he did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.
 21.  But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself."
 22.  The hand of the LORD was upon me there, and he said to me, "Get up and go out to the plain, and there I will speak to you."
 23.  So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the LORD was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown.
 24.  Then the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet. He spoke to me and said: "Go, shut yourself inside your house.
 25.  And you, son of man, they will tie with ropes; you will be bound so that you cannot go out among the people.
 26.  I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, though they are a rebellious house.
 27.  But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says.' Whoever will listen let him listen, and whoever will refuse let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.

Rudely is the only practical way for athiests to make a point. Polite discourse betrays them.

In spite of some beautiful surroundings---and it truly is!, do you really enjoy the political mindset of this liberal establishment?....on a day to day basis?

NIV Genesis 13:10-12
 10.  Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)
 11.  So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company:
 12.  Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom.

I don't believe God has given up on San Francisco....yet.

NIV Genesis 18:32-33
 32.  Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?"   He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."
 33.  When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

One person is a sincere attempt. A large group is a provocative action intended to elicit a response.

As I stated previously, both sides got to walk away satisfied from the deal able to carry their moral outrage and victimhood proudly.
