A sensible ruling. Paid political ads should be included, and everything else should not.

Things like these gives me reasons why I have always distrusted the so-called moderate conservatives more than the liberals.

I didn't realize the First Amendment had a 96 page addendum, but I guess I'll have to start reading it.

Ok, so if you own the website you don't charge for 1 month.

They should just leave the www alone.

It's the camel's nose under the tent IMO.

But it's good to have the doc posted.

HTML is doable, pdf is a pain in the computer. Gives mine a seizure.

The farthest I can go is "not as horrible as it could have been". No government entity should be in a position to regulate political speech, period.

I'll wipe my ass with their unconstitutional fascist rules. F*ck the FEC and they can take their attempt to regulate the Internet where the sun don't shine.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I reject the rules in toto and will NOT obey them. And I trust no one else will either. The government has no right to dictate where we may speak, to whom we may speak and under what conditions speech is permissable.

Here's the good stuff.

...Additionally, the Commission is adding new exceptions to the definitions of “contribution” and “expenditure” to exclude Internet activities and communications that qualify as individual activity or that qualify for the “media exemption.”
These final rules are intended to ensure that political committees properly finance and disclose their Internet communications, without impeding individual citizens from using the Internet to speak freely regarding candidates and elections.

Oooh rah.

I suspect McCain is deeply saddened.

I will be very interested to see what his response, if any, is to these Final Rules.

If he's as smart as he thinks he is, he'll keep his yap shut.

Yeah, this whole issue was getting me good and steamed.

Poor JimRob. His blood pressure must have been stratospheric over the past week or so.

It seems to me that the FEC was forced into this ruling by McCain-Feingold and the federal court ruling. The FEC really didn't have a choice in the matter and I am fairly pleased that they have made a low impact ruling. Given their restrictions (public law and court orders) I can't imagine a better ruling (sadly).

None of this excuses the acts of Congress, the President, and the Courts to allow the First Amendment to be ignored. But at least the FEC didn't rub it in our faces.

The clearest way to show that we the people are displeased that our government has ignored the Constitution is to do whatever we can to sink McCain. Let him not become President on our watch.
