I can tell you from personal research that they fought with inadequate food, ragged uniforms, and no shoes because they valued FAMILY, HONOR, and WHAT THEY BELIEVED WAS RIGHT, not for personal convenience.
And for the rights of the separate and sovereign states to be upheld in the face of a damned invader who believed decisions should be made in Washington instead of the separate capitols.
