Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.

Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.

Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.

"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.

Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children — Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 — were gone.

I had a hunch she would be charged. You just don't vanish with all of your kids (and otherwise alone), and turn up days later, hundreds of miles away, at the same time your spouse is murdered.

I'm no lawyer (obviously) but something here is up.

My first clue was when Mark Klaas pointed out that she wasn't officially included on the amber alert yesterday.

When they say she's being cooperative, I assume that means she's confessing.

$20 says the MSM will find some way to use some element of this story to try to trash Christians.

Tragic. What appears to be a perfect marriage and family carries a dark secret which has yet to be revealed.

Is it me or does the wording of that headline seem a little strange?

When all is said and done, I suspect we will find that in Mrs. Winkler's eye, her hubby was NOT as pure as driven snow.

Probably was fishing in a neighbor's pond, so to speak...just for openers. *S*

She was a logical choice as a suspect. But what was the motive?
Pressure of the ministry?
She wanted to be a teacher and principal said her first day of substituting was Tuesday, the day before the Pastor was found shot to death.
They had only been at this church since February 2005.
So we know very little about what might have been going on here.

My money is on either he was physically abusive to wife or sexually molesting daughter(s). Thoughts?

The minister has only positive comments coming out...which ought to make you think that there might be something in the closet that we don't know about. She might be bi-polar as well...which would explain alot. And we may find that there is a 3rd adult in this whole episode who was involved with both of them.

Or she's just bananas, a la Andrea Yates. Or the cold, calculating type - maybe he had a pretty good life insurance policy on him. Or she herself had a little something going on the side. Et cetera. Anyway, the field is still wide open for speculations on motive ;)

Thoughts?

My thought is that she'll fershur claim one of those scenarios, whether true or not.
