Hospital asks Jesus to change name
The Local ^ | 23rd March 2006 | James Savage

Posted on 03/24/2006 5:36:57 AM PST by Jane_N

Bosses at a Stockholm hospital have asked a nurse called Jesus to change his name, after concerns that it might cause confusion among patients.

According to Jesus, an auxiliary nurse at Huddinge hospital, his superiors were worried that patients told "Jesus will be coming soon ," might get the wrong idea.

"If they thought that Jesus was coming they might believe that they were already dead," the nurse told The Local.

Jesus, who will now use his middle name Manuel, said he didn't have a problem with the change.

"I understand why they wanted me to use my middle name," he said.

But, he added, "my name never usually causes me problems."

Is there no Swedish translation for "The nurse will be here soon?"

Nothing could be more Swedish than the name Jesus Manuel. :D

(I wonder if his last name expands on the same theme)

I love this quote " "If they thought that Jesus was coming they might believe that they were already dead," the nurse told The Local.

I mean is this a problem. People who don't know if there dead? I mean besides those who had way too much fun on a Friday night at the bar. Is Sweden's health system so understaffed that Nurses and Doctors do not have time to tell patients that " No you are not dead, you are very much alive". Has the State Lutheran church ( I think this is still the official church of Sweden) not told people that the Bible says nothing about Christ returning as a hospital orderly? One wants to know these things. At least I do.

I thought that people who have the name of Jesus pronounced it so differently that most people wouldn't recognize how it was spelled.

Yeah - but this hospital is in Sweden. How is Jesus pronounced in Swedish? Anyone know?

I don't know, but just thinking about it, I now have the muppet Swedish chef talking in my brain. I don't think he ever said Jesus on the show, though. LOL!

I don't know about Sweden, but in Germany, according to my high school German class, they don't say "J" the way we do...normally it is pronounced the way say "Y"...However, when they intend to say a "J" sound, they say "CH", so the word JEANS is pronounced CHEANS.

How much more confusing would it be if someone was told, "You're lactose-intolerant. Cheesus will be coming."

The point is for anyone that speaks Spanish, and there are a lot of them, they might be confused as described in the article.

Jesus, who will now use his middle name Manuel ...

The joke's on them. '"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call Him [Im]Manuel," which translated means "God with us."' Matthew 1:23.

Jesus in Swedish is pronounced with a "Y" sound. So you can basically say it is pronounced "Yeahsus" (according to my son). Whether it's Jesus the nurse in the article or Jesus (Son of God) it would be pronounced the same.
