Hospital asks Jesus to change name
The Local ^ | 23rd March 2006 | James Savage

Posted on 03/24/2006 5:36:57 AM PST by Jane_N

Bosses at a Stockholm hospital have asked a nurse called Jesus to change his name, after concerns that it might cause confusion among patients.

According to Jesus, an auxiliary nurse at Huddinge hospital, his superiors were worried that patients told "Jesus will be coming soon ," might get the wrong idea.

"If they thought that Jesus was coming they might believe that they were already dead," the nurse told The Local.

Jesus, who will now use his middle name Manuel, said he didn't have a problem with the change.

"I understand why they wanted me to use my middle name," he said.

But, he added, "my name never usually causes me problems."

I think I understood it just fine, although the allusion to English was incorrect. I should have said "other languages".

I think it's still safe to assume that this man was from a Spanish-speaking culture. Both Jesus and Manuel are common names in Spanish, but are not in Sweden.

Okay, but this happened in Sweden. And don't you think the name "Jesus" in Swedish would sound exactly the same as the Savior Jesus' name in Swedish would sound?

The Spanish say Jesus... "Hey-Zeus" for both the name and the Savior. Just like when people say Jesus in English, it could be the name, or the Savior. Same problem, all around.

And that should just about be the end of it.

The Alou family has had enough professional ball players to field an entire team.

There's Felipe, Moises (not Moses), Matty and Jesus.

There may be others, or more in the future.

I knew a guy named Juan that pronounced his name with a hard J. I pronounced it the right way and he told me that was not the way his family pronounced it, they pronounce it Jah-wan. I wanted to ask him, 'Just how stupid is your family?'

Maybe I am dense, but why would people associate "Jesus is coming soon" with their own individual death?

And let's not forget the immortal "Don Juan" of Lord Byron, in which Juan is pronounced Jew-en.

When have hospital staff ever referred to a co-worker by name, when speaking to a patient?
This is pure B.S.!

It's always been "The nurse will be right with you".

Pronounced like "HEY ZUES!".

Or do what we do when addressing my brother-in-law "Hey Suzy!".

You could be right. I didn't realize that from the article. Just because it said Stockholm, I didn't assume Sweden. After all, I live near Moscow. Pennsylvania.
