Muslim Leader Warns of Child Abuse in Schools

A Muslim leader has said child abuse in Islamic religious schools in Britain is "widespread", and called for tougher regulation to tackle the problem.

Dr Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, head of the Muslim Parliament of Great Britain, said the 700 or so madrasas in this country were "outside the law".

He is co-author of a report into the dangers facing some of the 100,000 youngsters who attend the institutions - usually attached to mosques.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme, he said: "Our understanding is that physical abuse is widespread.

"We would like to see mosques and madrasas come into contact with local authorities and police and put together guidelines, and the teachers are trained and parents and children are involved and they are told what their rights are if ever an allegation is made.

"At the moment all these schools are outside the law; nobody actually knows what is happening. It's not good for these institutions, it's not good for the children.

"What we want to do is some kind of arrangement where all are registered - there is a national register - the local authorities are aware what is happening in their area and overall some kind of process of advice, guidance, training and monitoring takes place."

Child welfare campaigners expressed concern about the situation.

Diana Sutton, NSPCC head of policy and public affairs, said: "The report highlights the urgent need for robust research which shows the extent of child abuse within the Muslim community.

"We are concerned that madrasas are not required to follow the same child protection procedures as schools and other statutory bodies.

"The Government must require them and other faith groups to put safeguarding policies in place and ensure that these are rigorously enforced."

The U.K. is buzzing about this frightening news. Madrasas are operating 'outside the law.' Local law enforcement in the U.S. needs to be made aware also. 'Nuff said.

This is great news. A Muslim leader actually speaking out against the atrocities of the religion. Hopefully something will be done about this.

Can you imagine how bonkers the liberal media would go if child abuse was reported to be going on in Christian schools in America?

Sadly he'll more likely than not be opening his email inbox tomorrow to read a long list of death threats.

False prophet Mohammed married a 6 year old and had sex with her when she was 8. 'Nuff said about muslims and child abuse.

Imam defend the practice of child brides. They even say that the girls can choose to opt out of the marriages when they reach puberty. But the girls cannot refuse sex because after all, they are the wife and dominated by the husband.

I thought Mohammed waited until Aisha was nine, not eight? Maybe some Freeper knows for sure and can correct one of us. Not that its amazingly important: nine years old is still paedophilia - but I need to be sure of my facts when I'm chewing Muslims out.

I believe you are correct. Nine years old.

"I need to be sure of my facts when I'm chewing Muslims out."

Good luck with that.
