Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

ME TOO!!
Indeed. How "silly" of you...
McCain was NOT going to get ANY GOP nomination in any case. I despise the man myself.
However ignoring the fact that Dubya Bush LET McCain's CFR gain enough momentum in both Houses at the time instead of speaking out against it, THEN not vetoing it was inexcusible.
"Yeah, except a democrat president would never veto it in a million years."
Is that supposed to be an excuse for why bush didn't veto it.
Oh no another saturday without Free Republic. BWAH!!!!!!!
BS, and you know that. Congresscritters aren't puppets and the dunderheads in the DC bubble were going to pass it becuase the people they listen to, liberal reporters, were saying to them, the people really want this.
But of course you blame the President instead the true impetus of CFR, mccain.
Nice try to divert from mccain's culpability.
FYI, the President is SUPPOSED to use the bully-pulpit to influence his party's votes on whichever bill is to be signed -- especially when they are a detriment to the Republic.
And act like you and the liberal media and blame the President.
FYI, the President is SUPPOSED to use the bully-pulpit to influence his party's votes on whichever bill is to be signed -- especially when they are a detriment to the Republic.
Well the Founders also gave the Congress the power to override Presidential vetoes and CFR would have been overriden.
Seems like you should tar and feather the Founders for letting Congress override Presidential vetoes.
I "think" the President has been right on certain issues but wrong on certain other issues.
Do you believe his not defending the borders, proposing a virtual amnesty bill, his non-veto of CFR and the Kennedy Education Bill are/were good for the country?
The man has NOT been infallible.
Hey McCainiacs, why does your boy the nutburger hate free speech?
Dubya didn't want to veto CFR. He actually supported most of the bill.
The DUmmies are in an uproar as well. They think it's our doing.
We keep getting told by the dems...that Bush is not KING...
And yet you blame him for Republican congressweinies NOT listening to him....
McCain has HATED Bush since 1999...so I doubt that McCain would do anything to help him....and don't talk about him kissing up to Bush lately..it is all political.
You must NOT remember the year 2001..up until 9/11.
Bush was getting treated THEN, like he is now..being called incompetent...and since he was "selected not elected"...he mistakenly tried to work with both sides of Congress.
THAT was his biggest mistake EVER...but you have to put his actions in context to the time.
I am not saying he is perfect...I dislike his immigration policy intensely...and a few other things...
BUT, I THOUGHT this was about McCain and his merry band of idiots in Congress (who do have override power over a Bush veto)...tearing down our liberties more.
I think that you are looking for a BASH BUSH THREAD...I am sure Jim will let you start one.
Jim, you moving to the Bahamas to set up the new servers :-)
Can we keep the Undead Thread up? We don't talk politics in there.
Yeah that's why when he signed it, there was a big ceremony(there wasn't).
The fact is that he didn't want to sign it as it was passed, but signed it anyway since his veto would have been overidden anyway.
But you can go ahead and ignore the facts and blame the President when in reality it was john mccain(and his cheerleaders in the liberal media) who were the impetus for the current CFR.
Actually, it would have been pretty powerful to shut down FR with just a message for Freepers to contact their Congressmen and the President. Leave it up for 5 or 6 hours.
Then please explain why Dubya signed Ted Kennedy's Education Bill.
"I think that you are looking for a BASH BUSH THREAD...I am sure Jim will let you start one."
The " blame" of CFR is shared-- whether you admit it or not.
If you can't defend your postion, you resort to "it's a "BASH BUSH THREAD"?
Nice "debating" the issue with you. Have a nice day.
Bush said on Meet the Press that it was the presidents DUTY to veto McCain/Finegold if congress passed it. He knew what his duty was. He just decided to spit on his duty and his oath of office and sign it any way because it would help his political career.
John McCain is a traitor.
Just as the Second Amendment means nothing to him, neither does the First. As the co-author of McCain-Feingold, this latest move is in keeping with his utter contempt for the Constitution and Bill of Rights. He is made of the same stuff which produced Marius, Sulla, and Julius Caesar -demogogues who destroyed a Republic.
Freepers can go to the following site for information on bills and their federal representatives to protest this latest action by McCain:
