Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

The scenario can become very real if we sit back and do nothing. If this is the only thread on Free Republic for the next few weeks so be it!
Guess we can keep our chat forum open (as long as no one mentions the elections). Seen any good movies lately? Gotta a hot recipe?

Nascar spoken here, reluctantly, but.. ;-)
"I am William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen,
here in defiance of tyranny! You have come to fight as free men. And
free man you are! What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?"
"Two thousand against ten?" - the veteran shouted. "No! We will
run - and live!"
"Yes!" Wallace shouted back. "Fight and you may die. Run and you
will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now,
would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for
one chance, just one cahnce, to come back here as young men and tell
our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take
our freedom!"
Why am I not surprised.
I doubt there's a more . . . evil known puppet master than Soros.
No we aren't
All we have to do is keep our cool and not let the Dems ever take control back
I was NOT calling Mr. Robinson directly a 'coward', but that only a coward would NOT fight this.
From my post: Because now is the time for you to either do what you preach and walk the walk, or you hide like a coward and shutdown Free Republic.
HELP!!!
I don't understand some of the specifics here fully - what are they going to do with talk radio?
This is very weird, don't you think? :)

Right. McCain and his ilk feel that hearing from too many grass roots, blogs, etc. interferes with their work.
You dont have to shut it down ...just do implement the new federal policy..
You can remain open...nobody gets to post that doesnt have a federal posting license and all posts must be pre approved.
Well, I only meant a kiss.
Thanks, comrade.
"That's the problem - let the board get shut down by the government. That would be a news story. Shutting it down voluntarily, or as a protest, won't get squat for coverage."
I don't think that will happen because I don't think unpaid posts from citizens not representing campaigns are covered... I know many here disagree but I cannot find any language in the bill that would mandate closure of message boards.
