City appears to choose top-dollar contract
In seeking a contract to remove thousands of flooded and wrecked cars from New Orleans, Mayor Ray Nagin's administration recommended that the city go with the highest quoted price for the job, a review of the 14 proposals submitted last year shows.

Controversy has begun to swirl around the issue almost seven months after Katrina made thousands of water-stained, abandoned cars as much a symbol of the city's streets as potholes were before the storm. Queries first arose after revelations that a Texas car-crushing company had offered, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, to pay the city $100 per junked car. The bid, made informally by K&L Auto Crushers at one of Nagin's town hall meetings, still stands, although the terms would have to be renegotiated, K&L's Dan Simpson said last week.

Gee the corruption continues?
Is this 100$ fee to just crush the vehicles ? I seem to remember that each tow to the crusher was close to that price also ?
Read carefully....the crusher will pay N.O. for the cars!
CH2M Hill seems like an odd choice for car removal - it's possible that the nature of the job involves a lot more environmental remediation measures than simply towing away a bunch of cars? On the other hand, CH2M Hill is sort of like a Haliburton - they do all sorts of big jobs requiring not only technical expertise but large-scale organizational challenges. And, they have quite a few other Katrina-related contracts.
Damn Bush. It's his fault.
These cars don't seem to being going to the crusher or recycler. they are ending up on used car lots all over the country. Mind you, they may not all from N.O. they are from wherever there was flood damge from hurricanes. It seems the sharks are buying them as salvage but not destroying them.
Buyer beware.
But, after listening to Dirty Harry Reid, Sinator Klintoon, Chuckie (Where's the camera) Schumer, et. al., I thought cronyism was a Republican issue.
Their big in Lousiana for some reason. I done many jobs there and they were always be hired for some reason or another. I believe it is a Cajun thing. They stick together.
