ATLANTA -- The Georgia House approved changes to immigration policy Thursday that would deny undocumented residents some state services, and some opponents are planning a one-day work stoppage in protest.
Supporters say the bill, which passed 123-51, is a homeland security measure that frees up state resources for legal residents. Opponents say it unfairly targets workers who are merely responding to the demands of state industries.
The bill, which now heads to the Senate, would deny adult illegal immigrants such things as nonemergency medical care and unemployment benefits. It also would sanction companies that knowingly employ undocumented workers.
This week, the House tacked on a proposal requiring anyone who cannot prove legal U.S. residency to pay a 5 percent surcharge on wire transfers. Immigrants often use wire transfers to send money to relatives back home.
The House also added a provision requiring workers to be checked against federal databases to confirm that they are legally permitted to work.

I might have to boycott where I work. (company uses a temp. agency to supply warm bodies for extra, higher workload periods. We depend on said temp. agency to verify ID. They get paid commission/fee for each hire. No incentive to cheat there. No sirree bob!)

They did try that in Cali altho i can't remember what the particular issue was that the illegals were protesting. It was about two years ago and the Mexican leadership told all illegals to not work for that day and for their children to not go to school on that day.
Funny part was the teachers union was against it. Now normally they'd be in favor of anything the illegals want. But since it hit them personally (the schools lose money for each child that is absent) the teachers in our area were telling the parents to not let their children participate in the "school out" aspect.

It sure is, neighbor- we call my part of town Tijuana North- and it's not meant as a compliment.
Their presence here in metro Atlanta is overwhelming. They are like a tidal wave. I used to work for one of the school systems, 3 years ago they started seminars on how to deal with and communicate with the influx. In seven years one school went from being one of the best to one of the worst with a 70% alien school population. Now they are infiltrating my area and they have brought the gangs. My neighbor, who for years had a home improvement business is looking for work because he can't compete with the Mexicans. They're killing us.

The solution for this IS at the state level. If California wants to bankrupt buying Hispanic Votes for DEMS, let them....
On the news last night they said they were going to boycott, I hope that means they will all stay home, it will be a good day to go and do the shopping.
What tore it for my wife ( the former Democrat... ) was the damage to the value of our house. Putting things in terms of real money clarifies the issue very quickly.
Was eating at a Resteraunt in Indianapolis a few weeks ago, and overheard the Assistant manager crying about having to hire a New Dishwasher herself....

I live in Albany and the influx is not as noticeable. My Mom's family is from South Texas, and I have spent a lot of time around Mexican-Americans. Once they become Americans, they are wonderful people. My concern is that so many are coming into the country that they are not assimilating, learning English and becoming Americans. If they hunker down and don't assimilate they will become cultural islands of Mexico in America.
I understand that South Cobb County is becoming Hispanic. I hope something can be done about the gangs. We have them in Albany (not Hispanic).
I am proud that the Georgia Legislature is trying to do something about the problem. Congress needs to pass a bill ASAP.
