Do you know this man?
For years, many of us throughout Pennsylvania trusted John Murtha. We knew him and he looked out for our interests and our values. But that John Murtha is missing today.
After 32 years in Washington, John Murtha has become part of the problem. To name just a few examples:
- John Murtha Wrong on Congressional Pay Raises. Since 1995, John Murtha has voted 11 straight time in favor of raising his own pay. (CQ #648, #317, #435, #289, #300, #419, #267, #322, #463, #451, and #327)
- John Murtha Wrong on Spending. John Murtha has voted multiple times to raid the social security trust fund the key to your retirement to pay for wasteful government spending projects.
- John Murtha Wrong on Health Care. John Murtha has voted to actually make your health care more expensive. He even voted against tax-free health savings accounts.
- John Murtha Wrong on National Defense. John Murtha actually voted to cut spending on our national security by $76 billion. Then, he voted in favor of instituting the draft! And, perhaps most stunning of all, John Murtha spoke out against the brave men and women who are defending our freedom by calling for an immediate withdrawl of our troops from Iraq.

Coop, this may come in handy for anyone who asks about the location of the district.
To: Coop
You're right. We all need to pitch in some, even if it's not huge...

Liberalism, and a lust for power can do some very strange things to a once sound mind.
Murtha's a perfect example.

What are you talking about, Jenny? That's a natural progression of terrain divides and cultural separation. [cough, cough]

I'm in Bucks County but if there's any way I can vote for Irey, let me know.

there is good news: Governor Ed Rendell is not particularly popular. There is bad news: Senator Rick Santorum is not popular.
Are these races expected to incluence the Congressional race?

Are these races expected to incluence the Congressional race? I'd say top of the ticket races always affect lower offices. But given your points about struggles for both parties in high office, I'd guess voter turnout efforts will be the key. And it being a non-Presidential year will favor the GOP slightly.
I'm excited about Diana's chances. I'm in no way underestimating an entrenched, long-term incumbent. But the numbers look favorable for Ms. Irey to give him a serious race.

I don't think Murtha has any idea what a propaganda coup he has handed Al Zarqowi and Osama Bin Laden. I just can't fathom a combat veteran doing this. But Korean war vet Charlie Rangel has done worse than Murtha, IMHO.

I know what you mean. About all we can do is respect their service and pitty their present mental incapacities. It's very tough to keep it in that perspective though. And I'm not so sure we should all the time. These men should both know better.

Rendell is affirmatively unpopular in Western PA, and Lynn Swann will probably win huge margins in the region. The district voted for Kerry over President Bush by only 51%-48% in 2004, but I think that Swann will carry it in 2006 with between 52%-55%.
As for the Senate race, Santorum is from the Pittsburgh area and has run fairly well in the district in the past, but Bob Casey, Jr. has a good profile for the district and will likely carry it by a bit more than Kerry did.

I can't vote for Diana Irey either, so I just sent her a contribution. This is a race we can win if we all do our part.

One thing to keep in mind about Bob Casey. He's currently the state treasurer and is presently embroiled in the midnight legislative payraise scandal.
This will bump up his negatives in the district and statewide, and Rick can beat him over the head with it at any time.
The working class folks around here are slowly becoming aware of Casey's record. This race will begin to tighten as we move toward November.I fully expect Rick to carry the district.

I think you have it right. I hope he doesn't really understand how he is being used. If he does understand then the darker comments here apply.
