This is gotta be one of the world's most facist stings ever devised. 2200 people arrested while sitting at the bar.

Just imagine all the lives ruined, not to mention the income generated by those this texas gestapo captured.

This is as unbelievable as it is unforgivable.

This is a handful of Baptists and rollers stirred up by their preachers.

If they really have a pair swinging they should go to the Houston Petroleum Club some night when the wine comittee has met and bring some breathalizers.
Or hit Houston Contry Club after any function and you can bust some big fish, 200 or 300 partners in major downtown law firms and their wives, lock them up.

Then practice saying "You want Fries With That?"

Or even a biker bar

""people still think that a bar is place to go get drunk,"

Fools. Thats what the state legislature is for. Sitting around getting drunk. Once every 2 years. Like a legionnaires convention.

Or the Library. Use you imagination.

"alcohol, its not just for bars anymore!"

NEW LAW! NEW LAW!!

This is great! Put it under the heading "2-birds-with-one-stone" laws.

We stop people at the border and give them sobriety tests. This way they are not drunk in public!

If they are drunk, we arrest them. If not we send them back!

Okay, so the state is going after those that are considered to be P.I. at the source, their local neighborhood bar. Where do the cops go to next to "catch" those that are considered to be "P.I.", btw, being P.I. is a very loosely defined subjective state in the mind of the individual arresting officer at the least as drunkenness isn't required to be proven to be considered "P.I." in Texas, only an appearance to be, do they start turning out for weddings, sporting events, concerts or maybe the backyard Bar-B-Que and most any other large gatherings where alcohol is likely to be sold, served and/or consumed? Where does the inept madness stop once the Gestapo styled police start down this very slippery big-brotherism slope?!

Drunk driving is no excuse for strong-armed tactics by the state. I feel sorry for drunk driving victims, but the enforcement by officers should happen on the roads, not in the bars. All the folks on this thread who accept this tactic and the idiotic law behind it have signed off on state sponsored arrests of people who have done nothing more than getting drunk. ANYONE drinking alcohol could be arrested - even if they are at home or are drinking at the game. Do you really want this, Texas? Do you get it? If you dislike the consequences of drunk driving, why stop with arrests on consumers who have done nothing more but get drunk – why not just stop the production and sale of alcohol all together? But then you would lose your precious tax revenue – of course! Better to let them have their drug and collect the money on the sale and on the ticket after arrest!

More than 2,200 people have been arrested in Texas bars in the six months since the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission announced a crackdown on public intoxication, primarily targeting bars.

No kiddin. Arresting drunk folks in bars should be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Stopping this should become a ballot issue in short order with folks running to put and end to this insanity.

Doesn't the owner of the bar have a 4th amendment right to keep the cops out of his establishment?

The second you get in your car, however....

I think the Rodney King treatment was just about right, indeed I used to yank people's chains by saying I had *NO* trouble with what happened to Rodney King (immediate angered reaction) as long as it happened to everyone who blows dirty:-)

No, this is not the "most" fascist thing ever done:
In Switzerland, they'll notify your employer if you make "too many" purchases at the local liquor store!

I'll bet the TABC is planning that next!
