This is gotta be one of the world's most facist stings ever devised. 2200 people arrested while sitting at the bar.

Just imagine all the lives ruined, not to mention the income generated by those this texas gestapo captured.

This is as unbelievable as it is unforgivable.

The arrests included people who were drunk in bars, who sold alcohol to a drunk person, or a drunk employee on the premises of a bar or restaurant with a license to sell alcohol, said Carolyn Beck, a spokeswoman for the TABC.

I'll bet they were all strip clubs. That way they could bust the girls, for drinking all their shift with the customers. I don't know this from personal experience you understand, but that's what I've heard...

See other responses at yesterday's thread. One thing I heard on the morning show on KLBJ this AM, by the laws in Texas, the TABC can arrest anyone for "Public Intoxication". Bars at hotels are considered "Public places". IMHO, that is a stupid law, and needs to be changed.

Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk

Here is my reply to stacytec last night

All 2200 of these people should plead "not guilty" and demand a jury trial. The burden upon the court system would be astronomical in both time and money. Add in the overtime costs for all of the arresting LEO's to testify at trial, and you can bet that the elected politicans will start to feel the heat, particular when the well-connected or their spouses or progeny are caught in a sting. In a matter of weeks, the judges will start tossing cases with the consent of the prosecuting attorney, politicians will give the SLA an earful for wasting tax dollars, and the SLA wil go back to doing what it does best, which is nothing.

It's horrible to think that people are drinking and getting drunk at bars. This must be stopped. I propose banning alcohol and cigarettes in all bars. We'll still be able to tax the sale of them, of course. But people will have to stay home.

Next we'll ban reading in libraries. Can't have all that eye strain going on. We'll still tax people to fund the libraries and you'll still be able to check a book out. But no reading in the libraries.

What else can we work on? How about you can't express a political opinion on a Blog? Yeah. That'd be perfect.

Between this and the smoking bans, I have developed a true hatred for the nanny-staters. Freedom is precious, yet we now have so-called conservatives cheerleading for the erosion of freedom after freedom..."for the children" of course.

Arrested for being drunk in a bar?? The ugly women are going to be up in arms about this. Closing time rules are for the loaded, not the sober.

PLEASE ..... NO MORE COMMENTS ... I AM SORRY

I made a knee-jerk comment on the headline. I DID NOT read the article. I had JUST found out about this outstanding young man and was sobbing when I posted.

I promise it will never happen again. For those of you that pray, please pray for Gavin. They are not giving his FReeper mom much hope. Thank you for your consideration.

That'll teach those bar patrons.. next time they are going to get drunk they should just go through the drive-thru liquor stores. :)

Our new "Republican majority" in Texas government at work.
They are mostly Democrats with R's after their names, and have added new meaning of government intrusion into our lives. They have raised fees for every concievable state service and increased the state budget by about 15 billion or so, but hey don't worry they say they are from the government and are here to help us.

Texas is always pushing a "designated driver" program. if you go out and get drunk, with someone staying sober to drive, and you still get arrested, what's the point? is the arrest point for being drunk the same as driving drunk?

Someone had better mess with Texas real soon. It's like they're vying with California and New York for being the state most restrictive of individual liberty.
