CORONADO, Calif. (NNS) -- Sailors and Marines from Coronado were thanked for their service by their civilian neighbors with a night of dinner and dancing March 18.
Coronados 21st Annual Salute to the Military Ball, held at the historic Hotel Del Coronado and organized by the city's chamber of commerce, was Coronado's way of showing its appreciation to their military community.
This is the most patriotic thing any city can do for its country and its military, said Mike Urquhart, Coronados Salute to the Military Ball co-chairman and a retired Navy commander.
The Harry T. Jenkins Memorial Award was presented at the ball to Cmdr. Bruce Morris, assigned to Naval Oceanography Special Warfare Center. The award is given each year to a Sailor who best exemplifies courage, discipline, sacrifice and faith.
This is a great honor, and Im truly humbled by the significance of this award, said Morris. Morris also thanked the Jenkins family, who allowed the award to be made.
I wish more of the civilian community could come and see this, said Chris Jenkins, son of Harry T. Jenkins. These people are warriors, theyre the people who give us all the freedoms we have.
Senator John McCain attended the ball as the guest of honor. McCain discussed current foreign policies and the role of service in todays military.
Our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines represent men and women from across America, risking life and limb and fortune to serve our country and the cause of liberty, said McCain. The dedicated pursuit of freedom that our nation has so firmly committed itself to is a cause worthy of this great country and the individuals who serve it so well.
More than 600 people attended the celebration.
OK so McPain McCain is in it; it's still a good thing.

Senator and Mrs. McCain.
