SAN FRANCISCO, March 22, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In one of the most startling attacks on the Catholic Church coming from a governmental body in the United States in half a century, the governing body of the city of San Francisco - the Board of Supervisors - voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a non-binding resolution blasting the Catholic Church for its opposition to homosexual adoption.
While many city's residents agree with the Church's stand against homosexual adoption, the resolution stated "It is an insult to all San Franciscans when a foreign country, like the Vatican, meddles with and attempts to negatively influence this great city's existing and established customs and traditions, such as the right of same-sex couples to adopt and care for children in need."
The city supervisors levelled an ad hominem attack on former San Francisco Archbishop William Levada, who has been appointed to head the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), one of the most senior posts in the Church. " Cardinal Levada is a decidedly unqualified representative of his former home city, and of the people of San Francisco and the values they hold dear,'' the resolution stated.
The supervisors also demonstrated their childishness as they attempted another dig at the Cardinal by indicating in the resolution that the CDF was once known as the Office of the Inquisition. "That the Board of Supervisors urges Cardinal William Levada, in his capacity as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican (formerly known as Holy Office of the Inquisition), to withdraw his discriminatory and defamatory directive that Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco stop placing children in need of adoption with homosexual households," reads the resolution.
The resolution attacked the teaching of the Catholic Church that homosexual adoption does "violence" to children since they would be placed in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development. The resolution blasted the teaching as "hateful and discriminatory rhetoric (that) is both insulting and callous, and shows a level of insensitivity and ignorance which has seldom been encountered by this Board of Supervisors.''
Demonstrating their own profound ignorance, at least in terms of biological realities, the supervisors contend, "Same-sex couples are just as qualified to be parents as are heterosexual couples." Concluding, the board urged current San Francisco "Archbishop Neiderauer and the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco to defy all discriminatory directives of Cardinal Levada."

What irks me about garbage like this is that these lefty freaks expect the world to change their values to suit their liberal and immoral agenda. The Catholic Church (of which I am not a member, btw) follows the teachings of the New Testament and the Holy Fathers. It is an ancient tradition and it has a basis in true morality and Christian values. Sure, as an organization there are certain problems within the Church and that is due to it being made up of fallible humans...not from the good and pure teachings of Christ that it follows.
I am Russian Orthodox (ROCOR). We are against homosexual adoption as well. Of course we are as it goes against the natural law of God. Does my own church have problems? Of course and that's because it is made up of fallible human beings who do stupid things sometimes. That doesn't make the Church wrong or bad or her teachings because they come from the only infallible human to have ever walked this earch - Jesus Christ.
My, aren't we full of ourselves today!
To quote a line from Captian Miller in 'Saving Private Ryan', when hearing that the Statue of Liberty is 'kaput' from a 'Dan from Dusseldorf': " That's disconcerting ".
"It is an insult to all San Franciscans when a foreign country, like the Vatican, meddles with and attempts to negatively influence this great city's existing and established customs and traditions"
What a bunch of hypocrites, why dont they also mind the Mexican governments meddling with our established customs and traditions? The San Francisco Board of Supervisors proposed granting parents who are not U.S. citizens the opportunity to vote in local school board elections in 2004.
This policy adopted by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is in accordance with Mexicos biggest labor union, the Congreso del Trabajo who are on the record demanding that illegal aliens in the United States be given the right to vote in US elections.

I have this feelng, I know where the "big one" will hit hardest in Kali Ally.
What the hell does that mean?
Has San Francisco become a city run by gays for gays? Have they become the majority or are they abetted by an ultra-liberal lunatic fringe? I'm just curious as to why the city has sunk so far. I wonder what it is like to be a cop in SF.
The SF Government makes the same mistake as liberal Catholics. They believe the Church is some sort of democracy where their can throw a tantrum and overthrow church teachings.
It's so typical for Liberals, they demand tolerance for their lifestyle but any one or group who disagrees with their beliefs is Hateful, Discriminatory, Insulting, Ignorant blah blah blah.
The Board of Supervisors - voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a non-binding resolution blasting the Catholic Church for its opposition to homosexual adoption.
Can we pass a binding resolution that the SF Board of Supervisors is a bunch of self important, incompetent nincompoops?
Or perhaps a fatwa?
I think he was refering to the SF Gov...at least I hope that's what he meant....
A fatwa...good luck finding 72 virgins in SF... :-)
Well, I hope so.
"I'm proud to say I have never been to SF (except to change planes) and I will never visit it. "
I was stationed there in the late sixties and have always thought that it was a beautiful city. I loved my stay there. Now it seems to have gone insane.
The French government report would make a great thread on its own.
A great many of them are gay too. I don't think it's anything close to a majority, but the force assiduously recruits homosexuals and lesbians.

I visited San Francisco in 1989, beautiful City, landmarks and all;
I will never set foot in this City under this current environment.
It is a crying shame that a beautiful City like San Francisco has been hijacked by the alternate lifestyle individuals, just like they high jacked the meaning of "GAY" out of our English Lexicon!
It means that the politicians think themselves so important as to place themselves above the Church. I apologize for the ambiguity.
