"To everybody on both sides of that wall, I want you to know that I love you both," Robert Salazar Jr., said in a final statement, acknowledging his family and Adriana Gomez's mother and other relatives who were there as witnesses. He looked toward his family during his remarks.
"I am sorry that the child had to lose her life, but I should not have to be here. Tell my family I love them all and I will see them in heaven. Come home when you can."
Salazar was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m., seven minutes after the lethal dose began to flow. Salazar, 27, was the sixth prisoner put to death this year in Texas and the second

That's pretty swift justice. He was in prison less than a decade, it appears.

He richly deserved what he got. Indeed, he is a virtual poster boy for the death penalty.

I don't care how long it took. Texas hasn't let us down yet, and lets hope it never does.

Uh, sorry, Bob, but I think they'll be serving carnitas where you're headed. Carved off your charred and smoking carcass.

Salazar inflicted wounds consisting of a fractured skull, bruised heart, fractured ribs, and ruptured intestines. After injuring the victim, Salazar placed her in her crib and left the residence. And it took them nearly 10 years to execute this piece of excrement?
That is absolutely reprehensible.

He beat a 2-year old child to death. Real "loving" guy. Ya sure.
["I am sorry that the child had to lose her life, but I should not have to be here.]
Er, scumbag, the child didn't "lose her life", you murdered her. But you are right about one thing. You should not have to be there. You should be thrown into a pit of alligators instead.
[Tell my family...I will see them in heaven."]
Er, scumbag, you aren't going to be within Warp drive of heaven. Have a nice time in damnation. Salazar was

"I am sorry that the child had to lose her life..." She didn't have to lose her life. Her life was lost because of this killer's actions. Not that his phrasing gives a micron of any acceptance of responsibility.
... but I should not have to be here."
The state of Texas disagreed. And they felt you had to lose your life. Or rather they felt the state should put you down like the rabid brute you are.

Next on the execution schedule is Raymond Martinez, condemned for the 1983 shooting death of a Houston bar owner during a robbery. He is set to be executed Tuesday. The press is always saying how Texas is rushing to execute people. Not this guy.

Salazar was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m., seven minutes after the lethal dose began to flow. Salazar, 27, was the sixth prisoner put to death this year in Texas I'm glad he didn't get to see his 30th birthday. Too bad he got to 25. Nine years is still too long for justice to be applied.

"I am sorry that the child had to lose her life, but I should not have to be here. . . . ." An interesting circumlocution that tells us evrything we need to know about his real state of mind. If he had said, "I am sorry that I killed that child," then we could reasonably believe his remorse. (Not that that should have made a difference in his sentencehe still deserved to die.)
However, he spoke of the crime in an impersonal, detached way, as if the child died as the result of some unforseeable accident of nature. He is in no way accepting responsibility for what he did.
The only thing that rings true is his complaint that he should not be there. I am sure he truly believed that he did nothing wrongit was the child's faultand that he should have been released. And I am just as sure that he would have committed more crimes, had he been released.
