Not that big of a deal. People are overreacting as if he meant to say it. Within the context...it's nothing. How stupid.

If he caught it and appoligied profusely immediately and didn't intend to use the word in the first place, I think the station over-reacted.
This guy doesn't sound like the type that would use the word on purpose, or he wouldn't have reacted as he did.
I don't know the guy. Perhaps this plays into other things he's done. I just don't know. If this is it, and he's an otherwise good host, I'd let him come back and chalk it up to an inadvertent error and a misunderstanding.

[Shes just got a patent resume, of somebody thats got such serious skill, Linehan said on the air. She loves football, shes African-American, which would kind of be a big coon, a big coon oh my God, I am totally, totally, totally, totally, totally sorry for that, OK? I didnt mean that. That was just a slip of the tongue. Lenihan later said he meant to use the word "coup."]
I don't know anything about this DJ, but from the context of this quote it appears that this was just an accident.
Still, in the radio business, as a professional such errors are unacceptable.

Firing him was stupid. He caught himself and profusely apologized right on the spot.

PCism run amok... As an aside, when is anyone worried about a (potential) racial slur directed at a republican?

Lenihans comment was made during a discussion about Rices credentials to become commissioner of the National Football League... She has the credentials to be elected POTUS, IMHO.
To: cardinal4
And what of the comments by the newspaper left-wing cartoonist and their other racist friends? Were they fired for racial slurs or were they just patted on the back and told to continue to degrade anyone who is black and a Republican.

How stupid - he didn't mean it - I've heard worse slips. Like the two "rap" DJ's in St. Louis that called for violence against the city's police. I don't think they were ever fired.....

I suspect that Dr. Condi would just laugh it off, she has too much class to sweat a little thing like this.

Well, at least he wasn't being niggardly with his apology;)

I dont know what was in Mr. Lenihans mind, Dorsey said in an interview. I know what I heard. I know it was reprehensible.Surprised Dorsey didn't recommend a firing squad instead of a mere firing.
God forbid this guy ever makes a mistake.
To: cardinal4
They also have a poll asking people fire/not fire. I voted. We should freep it as just a stupid slip of the tonge or lapse of judgement IMHO.

So why didn't we see any condemnation in the media of the political cartoons depicting Rice as something like a house slave and drawing her like something you'd see in a KKK pamphlet.

It sounds to me like he could have been thinking of the words "boon" and "coup" and accidentally used parts of both. People do that all the time.
