NEW YORK -- Invoking Biblical themes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.

Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate and relative latecomer to the immigration debate, made her remarks as the Senate prepares to take up the matter next week.

Clinton renewed her pledge to oppose a bill passed in December by the House that would make unlawful presence in the United States _ currently a civil offense _ a felony.

I understand Bush didn't use the word "amnesty"..but IMO, it's just oral gymnastics.

As the poorly written AP article says, it's a misdemeanor now. That means it's not a criminal offence. The proposed bill would make it a felony, which is a criminal offence. Clear?

Hey Hillary, you want scripture? Here's one for you: "John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. (KJV)"

A misdemeanor is a criminal offense. Typically you can only get on year in jail for it, but it is a crime.

The MSM will smooth her path as much as possible, but many more Americans will be watching and listening to her, and there's only so much the MSM can do to distort what they're seeing and hearing.

"Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?"

Yep, Mrs Control Freak has no idea what's in store for her in her quest to become ruler over us peons.

I think she's referring to Jesus and the Good Samaritan in the same way as Cardinal Mahony is concerned about those who would help a hurt illegal alien, not that Jesus or the Good Samaritan were necessarily illegal aliens themselves (although the man from Samaria WAS not from Jerusalem or Jericho, and Jesus taking human form was probably as "alien" as possible ; )

This is funny. There was a time on FR where certain people were singing Hillary's praises and even promising to vote for her all because she said "illegal immigration is a problem".

Well, then perhaps you will know: did Jesus help people who had broken the law?

That's what you think, because you have misjudged the backlash - she just aligned herself with the largest Catholic Archdiocese in the country.

How about this one: "

Leviticus 19:33-34

"When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God."

Just a difference in the words illegal and criminal.

You can do stuff every day illegal. That does not make you a criminal.

Criminal usually means you were convicted of a crime. I speed all the time driving, but that does not make me a criminal until I'm convicted of a crime driving.

it will be fun to see how shrill she becomes in the 2008 election when she figures out too late that she is going to lose.

Isn't New York a safe Dem state? That may help her for fund raising but I don't think its gonna help in the contested states.
