NEW YORK -- Invoking Biblical themes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.

Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate and relative latecomer to the immigration debate, made her remarks as the Senate prepares to take up the matter next week.

Clinton renewed her pledge to oppose a bill passed in December by the House that would make unlawful presence in the United States _ currently a civil offense _ a felony.

What laws are they breaking by BEING HERE?

Is that a serious question?

It's HOW they got here that's illegal. Just because they're good at playing Hide N Seek doesn't mean they aren't breaking the law.

I suspect that liberals, especially after the Clintons politicized the INS as their get out the vote organization for the purpose of winning elections, far outnumber the total numbers of "citizen" votes under Reagan. Election 1996 and 2000 are examples of liberal votes counts.

What appears to be different today is that the "religious" mantle is going to lead this debate. Kind of like that jewelry many wear "What Would Jesus Do" (WWJD).

Which is why GWB is trying to correct for that problem of Clinton-era voters - tell me if the Catholic Church is against this, which way do you think they will all vote? I agree with you that the standard should be WWJD - I guess we simply disagree on what Jesus taught about the Good Samaritan.

If her point is that "No further legislation is needed to make it criminal", how exactly is that "another nail in Hillary's political coffin"?

I have no problem using the word "alien" - the Bible doesn't either.

I agree - I would never vote for Hillary Clinton - she is right about this bill however.

Her own attitude in the matter and how she exploits the situation is the nail.

Good point - I hope you are right - I think she just sealed up the Kerry Catholic vote though.

Wow! Hillary can Google the Bible! That is if Google still allows its users to find a link to it.

You don't even understand the scene. The Roman dominion over the area meant that people were free to traverse it. The Sam was the visiter. The benificiary was in his home country!!!

"I guess we simply disagree on what Jesus taught about the Good Samaritan."

Was not what Jesus taught about the "Good Samaritan" an individual instruction as well national or even a religious organization legal obligation. We as a nation have laws that require people who are non-citizens to have 'paperwork' = passport to have legal status. There is no conflict with "Good Samaritan" and that law, no matter how religious organizations attempt to put their religious stamp to blot out what is already a legal requirement.

We have the legal right to protect ourselves and by extension our nation, and right now we have legal means in writing to do so, but are being opposed by some in the political, economic, educational and more prominently now days some religious institutions.

I agree with all of that - you do realize that the Catholic Church is arguing (once the illegal aliens are here) this bill could outlaw how they treat and care for them?

I think I understand the Bible perfectly. The Catholic Church is upset that the bill Hillary opposes could criminalize THEIR assistance to illegal aliens.

I guess I shouldn't have said "perfectly" (or why else have a daily quiet time - I actually reviewed Luke 10 this morning). What I understand perfectly is this analogy and the Church's concern.

Church doctrine does not overrule Constitutional law. How about going to where the problem IS and treat and care for them there? Why no pressure to the country of origin to treat and care for their citizens, Christ had no part of redistribution of wealth?

"Did she quote some scriptures to her hubby about infidelity too - or is it just show for the public?"

Actually, I think you're remembering the time she smacked him upside the head with her Bible after a 'Bimbo Eruption,' LOL!

Remember after the Monica deal when the MSM kept showing the two of them coming out of church together, Bill grasping his Bible with the words "BIBLE" facing outwards for the camera?

Yeesh. I loathe these people.

And, up until this law is passed, they could do it in the United States.
