IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday,March 22,2006
Washington, PA Today Washington County Commisioner Diana Irey announced her bid to become the next Congreswoman from Pennsylvania's 12th District. In front of a crowd of supporters , and with her family by her side, Irey outlined her reasons for challenging her opponent in this race."For decades, western Pennsylvania looked to John Murtha to stand up for our values. But as the years have drifted by, John Murtha has drifted further and further from the ideals that made this country great. He has become part of the problem in Washington. I don't believe we are receiving the representation in Congress we deserve and the time fo change is now."
Additionally, Irey discussed her proven track record during her tenure as a Washington County Commissioner."There, I have been successful in delivering seven consecutive balanced budgets without one tax increase, Irey stated. She also touted her efforts to enhance economic development in the region by working to create thousands of jobs for area residents.
Commissioner Irey also commented on her greatest accomplishment, the raising of three children with her husband, ages 16,15, and 12. "They are the reason I'm running. I can't sit quietly by while the special interests in Washington, D.C. continue to spend away our children's future."
Diana Irey has spent the last decade in public service as a Washington Conty Commissioner, and she is now running to bring her vision of government responsibility, lower taxes, and family values to the United States Congress as the Representative of the 12th Diistrict.

.....................................
That's the official press release. The announcement took place at 10:30AM EST in Washington,Pennsyvania.A very enthusiastic crowd was on hand, I'd estimate over a hundred people not counting the media.TV, radio and print reporters were there as well.As soon as I have a chance I will post Diana's complete remarks. From Washington she left for Johnston,Pa.She will be making stops at various towns today and tomorrow to announce her candidacy.
I wanted all freepers to know aboutthis as soon as possible.
The above press release doesn't reflect the warm reception her remarks received and leaves out some of her best lines.
I'll paraphrase until I can post a transcript but I liked this: "John Murtha has called for a withdrawal from the war on terror", and said that's not the message the people of southwest Pennsylvania want to send.
There's more, but I want to get this posted.
If anyone wants to help out,go to irey.com, get on her email list and contribute on-line there as well.
FRegards to all!
Awww. :(
You don't need a bookmark Coop. You have a mind like a steel trap!

Gavin is in grave condition after being hit.
This post shows some of Murtha's votes with which Irey can hit him this election: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1584238/posts?page=159#159
Is Murtha pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage?
"Is Murtha pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage?"
I heard, and I've said some prayers. But I will stop by the thread and offer my support to Cindy.
Yep, also good stuff. I remember reading through that list when you first posted it. I think Ms. Irey's gonna have a good ol' time, and Mr. Murtha ain't gonna have too much fun. [evil grin]
Thanks Coop.
It took me a while to actually see your post, I kept on getting a pop-up screen that said "enter password".It's gone now thankfully, since I have no idea what the "password" is!LOL!
I've never had that happen on a Free Republic thread before, it was quite strange.
Thanks again for the great post! ss

In other words, every time there's a Irey/Murtha thread. [sigh]
Please see tagline.
Yeah....and killing Chrisitians doesn't disprove the glorious Afghan democracy.
Every once in a blue moon you emerge from your little Armageddon bunker to post nonsensical drivel, we laugh at you, then you scurry away to hide once again. It's like clockwork (orange). The occasional times I attempt to logically argue with you, you usually seem to do the cyber equivalent of soiling your diaper before quickly changing topics. Carry on...
AuH2ORepublican, the picture on in post 79 is prompting a login box from http://nationaljournal.com. I don't think you realize this, and I am just informing you.
"the picture on in post 79 is prompting a login box from http://nationaljournal.com."
"Soiling your diaper"? Is this an example of your "logical" argumentative style and abilities?
My source for stating that Kerry carried Murtha's PA-12 by only 51%-49% is Michael Barone's 2006 Almanac of American Politics. Barone reported that Kerry got 141,046 votes to President Bush's 133,088 in 2004; I just did the math, and it would give President Bush 48.55% (rounded up to 49%) to Kerry's 51.45% (rounded down to 51%).
Barone got his numbers from Polidata, which apparently was unable to compute the number of votes obtained in the district by third-party candidates, but it was certainly more than 0, so the CD's percentages for both Kerry and Bush are a bit inflated. Third-party candidates got 0.65% in PA in 2004, and assuming that they got the same percentage in the PA-12, they would have gotten 1,801 votes there, increasing the total votes cast to 275,935. Thus, under such an assumption, President Bush actually got 48.23% (rounded down to 48%) while Kerry got 51.12% (rounded down to 51%).
Thansk!ss :)
