Group Seeks to Censure Jimmy Carter

By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor March 22, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - They're angry, they're motivated, and they say their voices are going to be heard: A conservative, pro-military group has launched an effort to have former President Jimmy Carter censured by Congress.

That effort includes a CensureCarter website, which includes photos of Carter with various dictators and terrorists. Next week, Move America Forward said it will unveil a television ad campaign to spread the word about the effort to censure Carter.

The campaign is a response to Sen. Russ Feingold's resolution calling for the censure of President Bush. Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat, has accused President Bush of undermining the Constitution and breaking the law with his terrorist surveillance program.

"Russ Feingold wants to censure our president for protecting the American people from terrorists, which is absurd," said Move America Forward Chairman Melanie Morgan.

"If the Members of Congress have an itchy finger to issue a resolution of censure, they should start with former President Jimmy Carter, who has repeatedly worked to undermine U.S. foreign policy, while happily promoting the interests of known terrorists and terrorist organizations," she added.

According to Morgan, Carter has attacked American foreign policy in North Korea while praising that nation's brutal dictator; he has attacked American foreign policy in Cuba while propping up "the murderous thug, Fidel Castro." And now Carter is condemning American and Israeli policies against terrorism while urging support for the terrorist organization, Hamas.

A non-binding censure resolution serves as a Congressional reprimand, and can be issued against either a sitting or former president or other political leader.

Move America Forward said it will deliver the signed "Censure Jimmy Carter" petitions to Members of Congress and seek congressional sponsorship for the censure resolution at that time.

"I suggest that the leaders in Congress take this effort seriously. There is a growing constituency of Americans who have had enough of "Blame America First" politicians hurting our nation and the important missions being served by our troops in the fight against terrorism," Morgan said.

As of Wednesday morning, the Censure Carter petition had more than 6,000 signatures, the website said.

It is about time! I have long said that Carter is a traitor. Ex-president or not, you don't go schmoozing with thugs and dictators and expect to be Teflon-coated.

The real problem is Carter needs to be a permanent guest of a insane asylum.

Melanie's a real Patriot, really appreciate the work she does on behalf of our troops.

Can we add Bill Clinton to this censure petition as well? Imagine his legacy. Impeached IN office, censured OUT of office. LOL

"Why give him any attention at all?"

Evil prevails when good men do nothing. I have never understood the "ignore it and it will go away" approach in politics. It doesn't work when a cat puts its paws over its eyes and it doesn't work in the battle for the hearts and minds of people.

Jimmy Carter continues to undermine U.S. foreign policy and cause our nation harm precisely because for 2 decades we on the "right" have just ignored him while the Left has continuously built him up as a sort of 'super-Ambassador' to the world.

No more!

Yes, his failures in Iran are sure coming home to roost. I can't believe the man can be so pious in bashing America when one of the radicals he enabled to storm our embassy in Tehran is now heading up Iran and threatening to start a nuclear war.

Where's the contrition Jimmy? Where's the acceptance that your "peace through weakness" approach would get us all killed someday?

Im for this 100%. Its not about giving him attention (although I am sure thats how he will see it) but stepping up and showing that our leaders cant behave anyway they wish without reprisal, even if they were former presidents.

I thought Republicans had more class than to stoop to this. Leave this childish nonsense to the Dems.

Carter is still bitter over being defeated by Reagan, so is doing everything he can to undermine American foreign policy that Reagan set in motion. His hope is for things to turn into disaster for the U.S. so historians will look back and say, "Gee, that Jimmy Carter was right all along." What a fool!

Speaking of bitter, how about adding that nitwit former Vice-President Al Gore to the list. He is another bitter one that will do anything to undermine our foreign policy goals for the same reason as Carter.

Maybe the censure resolution should have a former President and Vice-President. They could be censured as a ticket!
