WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush said Tuesday that American forces will remain in Iraq for years and it will be up to a future president to decide when to bring them all home. But defying critics and plunging polls, he declared, "I'm optimistic we'll succeed. If not, I'd pull our troops out."

That's quite true, but that is what is happening...that's the way it is in 2006. You can complain all you want, but as long as people have to make a living, they will sell what they have to sell. People nowadays, want to hear, what they want to hear.

It's gotten beyond out of control. This is a grave threat to America. Something serious has to be done. This election cycle has to involve some serious commercials illustrating bias - "of course you're feeling doubtful, of course you're worried, this is all you see and hear, but there is more to the story...." Soldiers telling that story. A campaign saying, "we're not crazy and neither are you, it's just that we're seeing the whole picture and it's being kept from you." Show the media unhinged, (eg. Laura Ing. double team this week; the L&O actor attacking the troops, etc.) Highlight the worst offenders. Show the shared talking points between our enemies and Demorats. Juxtapose the talking points against soldier's perspective, reality, stats. I'm talking documentaries, video clips, etc. Massive campaign.
The only industry I know of where you can distort, lie and harm by your products and yet not be accountable. Where are the lawyers and legal reformers?

BTW: over at capitalnews.org, the left is dummying up the poll re: is the news coverage showing too much Iraq violence. Freep it!
I am very passionate about this and dying to help reverse this course and counter the distortions and DNC supporting MSM. I don't have the techie skills, but I have ideas and research. Any activists who still care about Bush and Iraq and winning elections, contact me - I'm ready to roll. I'm sorry for the long post, but frankly this has gone on unabated for years now, enough is enough. I know some of you have high level contacts and can make waves, please do not sit back and let what's been built slip away. We cannot afford another Vietnam, our enemy cannot beat us through the nightly news and in the streets of Berkley.

But no one reads the transcripts! They get their news an hour a night at most or a click on the internet, and all they get is the editorialized version. People are lazy, we need standards and accountability in the news. They should include a link to the transcript in every single post and state clearly in the beginning, this is an editorilized/redacted version of the speech. The only unregulated, yet most important, industry.

Bush had a good press conferenceDid The Rapist hold his pressers at 9:00am? Seems a good press conference in prime time would be better.

People died b/c of the Koran story. Soldiers are attacked and the enemy marches forward b/c of the hope instilled by these reports. Remember Vietnam, they openly admitted they could only win in the news. There's no real repurcausions. If I design a medical product that saves millions of lives, but kills a few hundred I could lose millions, have the product seized, go to jail, etc. If I run a bogus report, divulge national secrets, and people die, I get a pulitzer prize. I'm no facist, I don't want to infringe on a free press, all I want is equal treatment and fair standards and accountability.

Reading between the lines is one think, completely changing the story, Michael Moore like editing, that's a whole different ballgame.

It depends a lot, on who is doing the writing, and who is doing the reading.

No matter WHAT he does or does not do, some one thinks it is wrong.
President Bush can please SOME of the people ALL of the time
and ALL of the people some of the time
but he CAN'T please ALL of the people ALL of the time.

I don't want to infringe on a free press, all I want is equal treatment and fair standards and accountability. I don't want to infringe on a free press either
Just report the truth and the facts accurately and let the chips fall where they may
Some in the media/press want to redirect where the chips fall with their bogus reporting

You'd think they'd learn by now Oh they have learned all right. They've learned they can say what ever they damn well please, pulled out of thin air if they so desire, and there will be some that will support them.

I agree.
The MSM is Enemy #1. The enablers are more dangerous than the terrorists! This is beyond winning elections and keeping power. The MSM wants our troops to come home in shame. How can American stand for that?

it's true that Bush never actually said that the troops would be removed from Iraq during his presidency. Nor did he say they would NOT be removed during his presidency.

He doesn't change his views to fit polls or please the media, you have to respect him for that.
That is precisely why those that disrespect him do what it is they do.
To: rightinthemiddle
A pretty balanced report, I'd say. Certainly an honest one in that no attempt is made to hide the contempt.
