N.Y. Times issues first-quarter forecast (DINOSAUR MEDIA EXTINCTION ALERT - NY TIMES PROFIT FALLS)

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- New York Times Co. on Wednesday said it expects first-quarter earnings to be in the range of 22 to 24 cents a share, including expenses of 2 to 4 cents a share related to job cuts the company announced last September.

New York Times Co. (NYT) earned 76 cents a share a year earlier, bolstered by a gain totaling 46 cents a share from a sale of company headquarters and another property. New York Times said first-quarter earnings may also be impacted if it is determined that one of its joint venture equity investments has lost value. If so, the company would take a non-cash charge related to that impairment. Companies are required to review the value of their assets on a regular basis.

In February, advertising revenue rose 3.7% to $178.8 million, but was only up 0.6% excluding About.com, the online information provider it acquired last year. Classified revenue was up 4.8%. The company saw real estate ads jump 29.3%, with help wanted ads down 5.1%. Classified automotive ads continued their decline, down 15.3%.

Ad revenue at the New York Times Media Group was up 3.3% on growth in the hotel, international fashion, domestic fashion and corporate categories.

The company was again plagued by ongoing weakness at the New England Media Group, which includes the Boston Globe, where ad revenue dropped 12%.

New York Times shares closed at $25.79 on Tuesday, down 20 cents. End of Story

$.22-$.24/share vs. $.76/share quarter-on-quarter. $.22-$.24/share vs. $.30/share quarter-on-quarter from continuing operations.

Any way you slice it, they're making less and less money...

including expenses of 2 to 4 cents a share related to job cuts...

Am I to interpret this bit of information that job cuts could double, as indicated by the range of 2 cents up to 4 cents a share?

The New York Times makes money by selling of its property rather than its "Product?"

chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and CEO Janet Robinson both received hefty bonuses despite meeting less than 60% of the company's earnings target for 2005.

Mr. Sulzberger received $1.6 million in total compensation last year. Ms. Robinson received $1.4 million.

Gee, I thought libs weren't in favor of compensation like that.

Do as we say, not as we do, I guess.

At its current rate of implosion, NYT stock will fall below $20 before the end of 2006.

The good news for America continues as the Ny Slimes, aka, an Enron of the fishwraps continues to lose stock value. As I post this, NYT is at $25.29/ share which is -50 cents per share or -1.8-94%. Below is today's good news chart for the Enroning NY Slimes compare to SPY/S&P 500:

I love it. This is what happens to any business owned by the lefties when they go hard to the port or to the left.

Why not just print the truth?

Chad, that's a good one.

The NYT and its fellow-traveling accomplices in the print media are on a mission. Their goal is to inform us daily of good and wonderful and important left wing people, places and things that are so perfect that they won't print even genuine bad news about them (lest we get the idea that they are not perfect).

And their other constant mission is to let us know about terrible things about people and places that they hate (America, heterosexuality, family, U.S. military, you get the idea). These are so horrible, that only negative pictures and stories may be printed, lest any reader gets the wrong idea about how hateful these people, places, and things are.

Curiously, it never, ever occurs to the folks in Hillary's media "plantation" that if they constantly have to torture the news to promote the PC message, that they might be wrong.
