Part of the Enviro-wacko plan! Moody, unhappy people think that the world is an evil place, and that Big Government will rescue us from our unhappiness. More florescent light = more Democrat voters. [/tin-foil hat]
BUMP!
It makes you MOODY?
That's really funny.
Are you afraid that it makes your butt look big?
I guess you don't care about US dependence on foriegn sources of energy?
Or are you one of those people that believe there is an umlimited amount of non-renewable resources on the globe?
Poor widdle moody Texan father of two. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
They do save you a lot of money. But they are extremely bad for reading by. As far a making you "moody", they are color corrected, even less "yellow" than a regular bulb. Plus they last 10 times longer. Anywhere you leave a light on, put one of those in. But if you like to read, get something brighter.
I had one (flourescent tube inside a glass dome) that lasted over 5 years outside turned on 24x7. I sold the house, but I should have taken that bulb with me.
Well, I don't know about "makes you moody"--but they DEFINITELY don't live up to their "long life" reputations.
We have those little spirally flouescent ones and they don't all last the 5 years they're guaranteed to. OTOH, I've seen them at a pretty good price at Value (sp) home stores occasionally, and they do save on electricity. I think they're only worth it for lights that are left on constantly. We have a few that we use all the time and those have the flouescents. I do like the color of the incandescents better, they're a much warmer looking light.
That's not been my experience with florescents. Put 4 of them, outside floods operated on a photocell, in the cans 5 years ago and they are still good. Have never had a regular bulb last even one year. Seems like the florescents only cost about 2X the regular floods so in addition to the energy savings their is also savings in the life of the bulb.
The new ones, the ones that are the same size as a regular bulbs are better than they used to be. I use them outdoors, in the garage, pool, and utility areas. My power bill is down about a hundred a month from where it was... You might want to give them another try...
