It was also the treatment of choice for syphilis (An evening with Venus, a lifetime with mercury).
My generation was the last to treat minor cuts with mercurichrome, before tincture of iodine completely took over.
And I'm *twitch* *twitch* OK...

...AND that they are using their position to lead "campaigns."
I'm assuming it would be acceptable, then, if a teacher were to lead a campaign to teach firearms safety and marksmanship to a group of middle-schoolers? How about the virtues of modern agriculture over organic farming since modern agriculture feeds ten times the number of people as organic and then lead a campaign to spread the word that organic farming is extremely inefficient?

No, it's not called a pre-emptive strike. It's called using a logical fallacy. It is fairly common on all internet boards, and the people who use it should be ignored because all they're really proving is that they know the facts won't back them up. And yes most of the people who resort to insults on the web are more diplomatic in person, because in person you can deck them for being insulting jackasses. IMHO any form of arguing that isn't good enough to use in person isn't good enough to be used on the web. If you can't win with facts and no insults then you can't win with insults either, and there's really no point in proving that you can be the rudest person in the discussion. And it's just sad to use the least intelligent form of arguing available and complain about other people being dumb, Mr Pot may I introduce you to Mr Kettle.

That Greenland glacier BS is just that. It wasn't even there 2000 years ago. What makes it snow more some years more than others, adding sometimes up to 200 ft a year to that glacier is the jet stream. It's called the "el ninio"(or something like that) effect. Depending where the jet stream cuts across, which generally separates Arctic air from warmer gulf air, dictates where the heavy snow falls occur during winter when the earth is tilted away from the sun. Some years the jet stream stays well north, and the winters are warmer, other years it is more south, giving a colder winter overall.
That BS about Arctic ice cooling the water crap is just that. There is plenty of Arctic ice, and there always will be, it just varies from year to year, decade to decade.
At one time there was farmland under this glacier, what does that tell you?

But you made my point for me.
And without going into boring detail on the 3% of "oil" used in utility generation, the largest amount of that is either the bottom of the barrel gunk no one else wants, and for plants where use of other fuels are impracticable such as in remote areas or central city combined heat and power plants.
Go florescent all you want, it won't change oil imports one drop.

600 million years is irrlevant because the continents were in different places. What the hell does that have to do with atmospheric CO2 concentrations?

Care to speculate as to the cause of the retreating ice caps on Mars? NO! That is an absurd distraction. The climate on Mars is so vastly different to the earth in so many ways that it is completely irrelevant to the question at hand.
The fact that the earth is warming, that C02 plays a role in the termperature of the earth as a greenhouse gas, that concetrations of CO2 are higher demonstably higher than they have been for 900,000 years and likely for 2 million and that humans have been pumping vast amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere that was previously in the ground for the past 250 years are the facts that are relevant.
You might have a headache because of the air pressure, but maybe you should think about what you drank last night first Unless, of course you are addicted to alcohol and will be thrilled if another cause can be found to explain why your own actions are not the problem. (obviously I am not talking about you personally)

I applaud their effort but, florescent light makes you moody. I've tried them and they really don't last long enough to justify their price. The new ones, the ones that are the same size as a regular bulbs are better than they used to be. I use them outdoors, in the garage, pool, and utility areas. My power bill is down about a hundred a month from where it was... You might want to give them another try...

So it looks like we're actually below what is considered normal for the planet's history. So we're warmer now than when? The Little Ice Age? Sure. Any ice age? Sure. But what about when the Vikings sailed to the US and named Greenland *Greenland* for a reason? This global warming is all relative. It just depends on what you're comparing it to. It could also be thought of as the planet just returning to it's normally warmer state from it's abnormally cool spell.

Well, you might find that you have a hard time decking me in person, but that aside, feel free to point out and refute facts.
I didn't hit and run I am here slugging it out. Come on, what do you have? Where are your facts?

Not to mention CO2 concentrations were shown to be much higher when there was NO industrial activity, according to samples taken from "ice cores"(which don't really mean anything unless it can be proved how much it snowed any given year) from a very young glacier in greenland. In fact these co2 reading were twice as high as they are now, yet the earth was cooler.
To: metmom
Where are you looking? Current CO2 concentration is 380ppm and rising fast.

Uh. The currently ice covered place is "Green"land. The main Continent was Vinland, Newfoundland was warm enough to grow grapes.
But unlike Einigkeit_Recht_Freiheit, you knew that...
