This is Thread #5 for all FReepers who took the Jung Typology Test,
also known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) personality test.
A special thanks to the people who offered their HTML expertise on the other thread. Some of them took some
significant time out of their day to help, and I really appreciate it. I couldn't have posted this without their help!

Jung Personality Test ^ | February 23, 2006 | Alamo-Girl
Would you like to learn a little more about yourself and your fellow posters on Free Republic? If so, you might enjoy this Freeper Research Project. It began on another thread where people were testing themselves for nerdiness. Great fun was had by all. Along the way, Freeper patton posted a link to the Jung personality test. What an adventure! I took the test for the first time and found out I am an INFJ (I=44, N=75, F=25, J=25). Because we were sharing the results of our tests on that thread, I was pleasantly surprised to discover three other...Thread #2:

Below are the first results of the research project! We would like to improve on the project by adding occupations to the chart below. The occupations listed in each type code will not be associated with Freeper handles. If you would care to share that information, please post your code and occupation, e.g. INTJ - physicist. If you don't want others to know your occupation, you could send either Nita Nupress or me a Freep mail with the information. Thank you all so very much for participating in this project! I Missed It. What Is This Thread About?!
FReepers have been taking an online personality questionnaire to determine which one of 16 possible personality types we are. The Jung Typology Test has been around for years and is well-documented in the research literature. The general consensus among the FReepers seemed to be that, in most cases, it was eerily accurate. Like many of you, I took the MBTI instrument almost 20 years ago and got the same results then as I did now.
We've updated the tables to include everyone who responded. Hopefully no one was left out, but if you were, please accept my humble apologies in advance! As in the previous threads, occupations and career paths are listed under each personality type without reference to FReeper handles. Great care has been taken to preserve your anonymity in that regard. Also, I started grouping similar occupations into categories for easier reference (e.g., Military, Educator, Business owner, etc.) but quickly discovered how easily I could misinterpret what someone meant, so I backed off that ambitious endeavor rather quickly. For one thing, I feared offending someone if I moved you to the wrong category. (Example: Does "Software Engineer" belong under Engineer, or should it go under Computers?) Maybe sometime in the future we could do this as a collective effort. With my limited knowledge I'm just not comfortable doing it alone. Suggestions for future categories are welcomed!
Alamo-Girl and I (iNFj and iNTp, respectively) give our thanks to all of you who participated in this project. By my last count, there were 538 participants. It was thought-provoking, stimulating, and FUN, all at the same time. We hope you enjoyed it, too! (Go to TABLES.)

Or maybe you shouldn't. My husband and I have "Conflicting Relations" -- "the worst compatibility between partners among all other relations." And just so I won't be all alone in my "conflictions," the Conflicting Pairs are in the column at left.
For the other side of the compatibility coin, go to the Socionics soulmates page to read about the pairs that are the Relations of Duality (listed at right). Oh, now this was interesting! Dual partners "are like two halves of a whole unit. They usually understand each others intentions without any need to say a word..." [Call me skeptical. Bloody hell. I wish I had known about this; I would have participated.
It means that someone has completed a system of Aristotelian classification that appears to include all of us. That seems odd since there are some FReepers who appear to be unique unto themselves and not part of any system.
I just took this test. ENFJ.
Thank you both for all the hard work which went into this interesting and worthwhile project. I truly feel part of a larger community by being among those who responded to this survey. FR's the best.
According to the literature I found, it appears to be a computer thing.
This is just one of several research articles that basically say the same thing: On the average, Intuitives (NT & NF) seem to prefer (embrace, feel comfortable in, enjoy, etc.) the online environment more than the Sensory (ST & SF) types.
Personality Indicators and Emergency Permit Teachers' Willingness to Embrace Technology
Authors: Chambers, Sharon M., Hardy, James C., Smith, Brenda J., Sienty, Sarah F.
Journal of Instructional Psychology, Sep2003, Vol. 30, Issue 3
Abstract
As a result of innovative technologies designed to enhance learning, today's teachers must learn to incorporate the newer technologies into instructional strategies. The present study examined the impact of certain personality types and secondary education teachers' inclination to use technology. A sample of 200 Emergency Permit teachers were surveyed using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and a questionnaire designed to determine willingness to use technology. A one-way ANOVA test was applied to group means. Findings indicate that intuitive/thinking types of personalities were more likely to use technology in teaching while the sensory/feeling types were the least likely.
(snip)
Results
(snip)
Significant differences were found in technology acceptance mean scores between the following Myers-Briggs Types: Intuitive/Feeling (NF) and Sensory/Feeling (SF); Intuitive Thinking (NT) and Sensory/ Feeling (SF); and Intuitive/Thinking (NT) and Sensory/Thinking (ST).
Select descriptive statistics of technology scores for each Myers-Briggs type group are provided in Table 3. Larger numbers reflect greater technology acceptance. Program participants classified as Intuitive (both NT & NF) were more receptive to the use of technology than Sensory (ST & SF) types.
Discussion
The present study is congruent with research on type-indicators conducted by Grindler & Straton (1990) and Smith, Munday & Windham (1995). Secondary teachers identified as Intuitive/Thinking are more receptive to the use of technology than the Sensory types. Teachers labeled Sensory/Feeling were least likely to be comfortable with technology.
It is recommended that teacher education programs consider personality factors when designing technology related curricula. Individualizing instructional techniques to best meet identified preferences and styles is suggested.
For effective training, educators need to design programs for pre- and in-service teachers that include descriptions of how different personalities can best use technology with diverse students. Those individuals more inclined to use technology may be identified to work in interdisciplinary teams with others who are less inclined to use the newer technologies. Identification with individualized instruction may successfully reduce anxieties often experienced by some novice teachers.
Thanks again for doing this! : )
Thank you. (Alamo-Girl did most of the work. I just helped by putting her data into table format. And I had to have help with that from others. :)
This may depend on your current age and your age when you originally took the test. This personality typing system is based on the 8 functions developed by Carl Jung. Everybody uses the same 8 functions, but in different orders and varying degrees of development. But as life progresses and hopefully we mature, we eventually start being more well-rounded, and using our less "natural" functions.
The functions of the typical ENTP are in this order:
N,T,F,S
The functions of an ISTJ are in this order:
S,T,F,N
Other than the You probably know enough about yourself to know you're more a Thinker than a Feeler, but other life changes and function development could easily have you answering as a Sensate when you're an Intuitive (because you may be actively using that function now).
It may help to think back on childhood. An imaginative child or a reality-based child? A "responsible" child or a "head in the clouds" child? As an adult, a detail-oriented "inspector" or an "inventor"? As a child, an introvert or an extravert?
Wow! I am just now finding out about this project. This is fascinating. Brings me back to when my daughter took the AP Psych class in high school.
I took the test just now and scored as an ISFJ (56, 25, 12, 78) - HA! So they think I'm judgemental eh?
Kudos to all who obviously worked so hard on this!!!!!
But I do think we change a lot as we age. I used to be much more of a dreamer, but now I am much more grounded in reality (we could go on about why that happened, but I pretty much know).
I think it's really most interesting to watch how we change in life. It also helps give insight into why we may or may not be totally happy in our careers/life.
As to when I took this before - it was probably around 10 years ago, when I was in my teens. :)
Supposedly there are also a lot less female INTJs than male INTJs in the general population...looks like there are plenty of INTJ women here on Free Republic though.
Thanks so much for all your work. This is really interesting!
Enjoy :)

LOLOL! I wish I could, dear little jeremiah!
Thank you so much for checking!
Thank you!
Thank you so much, Lando Lincoln!
Great! I found the misplaced chunk of the list which included your entry and I was hoping you'd double check. Thanks!
I'm very sure you didn't flunk, Walkenfree! But, alas, I am human and prone to err. Evidently your entry is on some prior thread. I will search for it and fix my mistake the next time around.
