As a matter of fact, I'm glad SOMEBODY tried to come up with an idea to organize all forces against Topinka.
I wasn't hearing any better ideas from Brady or Gidwitz. They're content with Judy Baar winning (Brady and Judy are good buds, after all). At least Oberweis isn't happy with those results.
Gidwitz and Brady could care less if the whole state goes to hell, as long as they have a decent turnout so they can each declare themselves the front-runner for the 2008 Senate race.
I'll take someone who ISN'T okay with Governor Judy Baar Topinka over someone who is just FINE with Governor Judy Baar Topinka. I love Bill Brady; but after tonight, I have a feeling I'm really going to hate Bill Brady.

What this numbskull SHOULD have done is tried to work behind the scenes... but THAT would take political know-how. Something he has NONE of. Further more, he has NO political organization past his own political committees, MOST of whom work for him in the Dairy business!
Obie is worthless. Always was. Always will be.
But, I DO agree with one thing you sort of hit on. Illinois conservatives are NOT coordinated in any way at all. They all go off in different directions and have no sense of supporting each other. This race is typical of them. They offered three candidates! Not one which they could all get behind, but three designed to spread their votes out to the four winds and make them meaningless.
No conservative will ever make headway in this state until the grass roots decide to work together. But each conservative group in illinois hates the other and they all continually work against each other.
Every conservative candidate over the last 10 years has been so bloodied by other conservatives that he is forever useless after a run for office, a run he will invariably LOSE!
Cox - ruined
O'Malley - chased off
Salvi - ignored
Brady - given no support
Rauschenberger - not even given a shot
The Illinois GOP DESERVES to be on the outside looking in. They are a waste of time. Why do you think Karl Rove pretty much just IGNORES Illinois in all his machinations for Bush? Because he KNOWS that the Illinois GOP is a big fat NOTHING! No coordination. No leader. No sense of community. No plan.
Remember the Alan Keyes run? Why do you think that even happened? Because the Illinois GOP had NO IDEA what to do, no leader to look to and no plan.
You know how an old building is razed to the ground before the new one can be built? How every last stick, every last nail and board is torn down and carted off to the dump before new construction begins?
THAT is what the GOP needs. A TOTAL purge. This Party is merely a laughing stock.
