Family Missing For Over Two Weeks Is Found
March 21, 2006
- By KATU.com Web Staff
MEDFORD, Ore. - A family who has been missing for over two weeks has been found alive in the hills north of Medford.
The Stivers family was last heard from on March 4 as they were leaving for an overnight trip on the Oregon coast.
The missing included Marlo Hill-Stivers and Peter Stivers (husband and wife), 10-year-old Sabastyan Stivers and 9-year-old Gabrayell Stivers (their children) and Becky Higgenbothum and her husband Elbert Higgenbothum (in-laws).
According to preliminary reports, the family took a wrong turn and got stuck in the snow, which would explain why none of the family's bank accounts had been used since they disappeared.
Two of the family members walked out and were found by a Bureau of Land Management employee, according to Josephine County Undersheriff Brian Anderson.
The area where the family got stuck is in southwestern Douglas County near the Curry County line.
The area is inaccessible by vehicle due to a heavy snow pack, but a search and rescue operation is under way to get to the family.

This family must not have any beautiful young women in it, or Greta would have talked about them non-stop for the last two weeks.
Glad they're OK, sorry about the looks.

I look forward to seeing their story on "I Shouldn't Be Alive" which is a really kickass show on the Discovery Channel or The Learning Channel or one of those other channels like them.

There but for the grace of God went us. This could have easily been my family growing up.
Mom: Do you know where we are?
Dad: Yes.
Mom: Are you sure? I don't see this on the map.
Dad: Yeah I'm sure, it's a short cut.
Mom: How do you know a short cut? We've never been in this state before.
Dad: You know what...how about you let me drive since I've got the steering wheel here in front of me!
Mom: Don't yell at me, I'm just asking if you know where we are!
Dad: And I answered you.
Mom: You have no idea where we are do you.
Dad: Is that a question or is it a statement. Because if it's a question, I have already answered it. If it's a statement, I don't need you to tell me things I already know!
Mom: so we are lost.
Dad: I didn't say that.
Mom: Yes you did. You just said you didn't need me to tell you things you already know! That means you know we are lost.
Dad: That's not what I said.
Mom: YES IT WAS!!
Dad: THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!
Me: DAD!! WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!!!!!

Amazing what the investment in a $200 GPS unit from Wal-Mart can do to save one's Higgenbothum from Stiverring to death.....that's it.......get into rural wilderness America and forget the elements can kill you.......hmmmmm....even one of those $10 dash-mount compasses can do wonders if one knows the coast is to the west......

Are you sure they're alive? The last time the media told us they found people alive, turns out they were all dead but one.

Thank God they are okay.
That's rough country up there. I live in Grants Pass and often go ,ountain biking around Glendale/Graves Creek and the logging roads to Agness, and there's NO way I would ever take a motor home up in those roads in the summertime under the best of conditions, let alone in the middle of a bad snow year in winter!
